FTO gpx 5mt help needed rev problem

Post by Elixir »

Hey all !

This is my problem : FTO GPX 5mt . I start the car , let the engine become warm and drive away . Now when i realy wanted to push it it just cuts the fuel on 6000rpm . but the rev counter goes all the way to 8000 . I have a sfc controller , but i killed it when that happened and had another go . Still same problem . please help me because i have been fighting with it quit a while now .
(having in mind :that the fto wasn't doing fuel cut before although it has a limiter )

usually when your engine is still cold, your engine will "protect" itself and limit your revs to 6k - 6.5k

if your sure that the engine is warm
then you might have a problem with MIVEC not kicking in properly

try it again after driving around for 20 mins

the protection when engine is cold is common . I always warm the car for 10 min and drive for another 5 min to warm up
While driving ill only rev to 4k to shift .
So the engine is def warm .
And bam still happens . Ive ordered a obd2 scanner . Scanned the car and nothing . never removed the battery otherwise the ecu will reset . So its realy a head scratcher for me .
i have removed or unplugged some sensors just to check it (O2 and speed) because fuel cut is a fault in air fuel mix . but still hits fuel cut .
So the only thing i can think of is an engine temp sensor .

Is ther sfc still connected?
How do you know its a fuel cut?

ive heard it before on an GTst <<<lol>>>skyline <<<lol>>> omg sensored I like.
Anyway
while i was working on the car and testing it .
on 6k it produces a couple soft bangs (not backfire) and de-accelerates and im scared to just push it to 8 with the fuel cut . But it would never work with fuel cut because the car slows down so you would have to speed up again and then bang 6k again with fuel cut .

Sorry about the push it till 8k : i meant shift normally till 3rd gear just before it hits 5.2k in 3rd shift back to 2 just to see what happens when rpm in 2 is above 6k .
But im scared , because engine might get broken and my poor gearbox .

Firs thing I'd do is pull the sfc controller out & kick it at a lesser car. Its nothing more than bling. The standard FTO ECU manages fuel & air mixing just fine unless you've done some serious modification to the motor.

If that doesn't fix the problem, check your ECU error codes detailed here:

http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... ic&t=14667

If it is a sensor that's playing up, this is the method to finding out which one. Much cheaper than buying them all & swapping them out one at time.

Also keep in mind, the rpm limiter that stops you over revving the car when cold, can last for a lot longer than 10 minutes. 10 minutes is a bare minimum, your geabox oil takes up to 30 minutes to get to optimum operating temp.

Also, changed you fuel filter recently? Check the fuel pressure regulator? Or your cat converter?

The car has nothing realy on it now . only decat , new polished headers , vr4 injectors , walbro fuel punp , cai ,sfc contr. , msd ,light flywheel, heavy duty pressure plate , new cams and forged pistons. all new bearings and all the rubbers (almost anything that cycles or turns is changed )and i removed the turbo from it .
Fuel pressure is good !!!

The only thing i want but dont have is emanage or make the car awd .

and ive got an obd2 scanner and nothing turns up on it .

Im gonna take the whole engine apart tomorrow and start from scratch (that will take me 2 whole new days to get the engine running again .

last question . could it be my alternator ? (dumb question of mine but i have a feeling it plays a part because its connected to the ecu )

holy shhit batman. That sounds like a very impressive motor mate were do you live? Um this may sound noob but has this only been happening since you did all the stuff to the motor? Are you running a piggyback ecu? If your not it sounds like the motor is way out of tune e.g fuel air mixs and everything isint right mate. For all that work I would chuck a piggy back in the car and gt it tuned mate.

nah the car worked fine with all the work done.
the sfc controller is kinda a piggyback. all air/fuel mixtures are good. all my sensors are working and no heater cables are making a short circuit.PLease dont focus on my spelling . English isn't my native tounge .javascript:emoticon(';)') .
I have the whole engine working again . and it stopped doeing the fuel cut . The problems were several .
the connector of the alternator was bollox so had to make it again . the hydrolic mivec engagers in the motor by the cams were F**** so had to aid them . the cable of my spark plug front bank right was not getting enough juice so it had a weak spark . the fuel rails couldn't hold compression (why i don't know) so i've rebuild them but now with 350cc injectors. Just in case removed old fuel filter and put in a new 1 . timing belt was worn out for some reason (was only 8 weeks old). and timing was a little off . ive added an mph converter box and hooked it up to the ecu . so i kinda delimit the car , because it thinks the car is going much slower because of the mph electrical readout to the ecu being much to low compared to km/h . and this time i reflashed the ecu and removed the safety featers of the dam car .

safety featers of letting it warm speed limited (so double delimit)
fuel cut safety also removed .
the car is driving like a dream . 1/4 mile i've done NA in 10.8 sec
and i'm pleased !!
I live in Suriname . a place in south america . javascript:emoticon(':)') i will only go turbo with emanage and awd on the fto . those are my next plans . already have an evo 8 engine and gearbox and differentials to fit in my roling fto . (yeah i have 3 fto's)javascript:emoticon('')
i've got a lot of cars . that's basically the only thing i can do .I dont need to work all my work is done for me (get this i'm only 23 . so i have a lot of spare time on my hands .

i would think it be very hard to assess a problem with a heavily worked engine, from people that have near stockish cars...
Apart from the turbo boys.

I would have said your alternator, which can affect MIVEC not happening, but who knows.

Might have to hunt around for a wizard (mechanic)

P.S. pics please :D

Even Jeff's page on his FTO says it *should* be able to do a 11 second quarter mile.

And did anybody care to look up stock quarter mile times for a R35 before commending this guy
