oil temp going bananas

Post by gumby »

Hi guys

Re: 95 Mivec tip

On the weekend we had our FTO out for an all day run. It was a 30 degree day and the AC was on for most of the day. All was well until about 4pm when I suddenly noticed the oil temp was maxxed out at 150+.
Pulling over I checked the oil ( serviced 2 weeks prior with new Valvoline) and oil levels were full and although it was hot under the hood it wasnt overheating in your face hot. I drove home ( about an hour ) freaking out all the way ( no mechanics en route ) and let our baby rest over night. Next day a small test drive had normal temp levels again and no problem at all ( fingers crossed ). Although driven daily the car only does about 15klm per day so im wondering if I havent noticed temps rising because of the short distances between home and work? Any thoughts would be appreciated greatly

i would say take it for a "proper drive" on a cooler day / night see if it does it again. if it does then you possibly have pump issues or radiator issues.

hard to say really but if you can reproduce it do that with a mechanic in the car.
