Urgent help!!

Post by d_stroy_r »

I went for a drive yesterday and the road was a bit damp, since i have LSD and my tyres are hopeless it kept on wheel spinning (not my fault-seriously).

Now everytime the car is revving at between 2-3rpm there is no power going to the wheels, the car just revvs. Above that and below that, it's fine.

Any help would be most appreciated.

im with mikey, from what youve said, my problem is almost identicle.

Yesterday i was driving home and the problem happend at 2-3k, but i didnt really pay much attention, just thought to myself "hey auto's do that when you rev it heaps and let it go." (Boy am i an idiot)

And today it kept happening (i was going along the freeway to caulfield going about 20km/h over 100[**cough**cough** saving myself from legal proceedures of speeding, so it may have been 100 or 120 you can deceide.]), again ignored it n thought it must have always done that, just never really paid much attention to it. 8O

And this afternoon i picked up my older brother who gave me a lecture as to why it was happening, and told me the same thing happend before his skyline clutch blew. And it all made sense.
And he said take this as a warning that your clutch if about to go and drive it extremely carefully and gently untill you can get it replaced.

Also when your driving at a constent speed does it sometimes feel like youve put the clutch in and out? like its driveing then feels like nothing is grabbing then it is again?

or if your accelerate hard does it rev high to say 4-5k and then drop back to 3/3.5k then drive normally again?

definitely sounds like a stuffed clutch to me... does it have a high pick-up point on the clutch pedal?

another good way to test if the clutch is wearing out is find a straight and long steep hill, then floor the throttle in 3rd or 4th - if you are geting more revs but not much extra speed, then your clutch is living on borrowed time (just like my old one).

plus i believe the heavy duty clutch to which you're referring to came from Japan too right? (you haven't replaced it?) if it came with that clutch as you bougt it, chances are likely that the previous owner would've fanged the car HARD, otherwise there wouldn't be any need for it...

*smiles* some people just don't like spongy clutches =) I hate them =) but then again, I do drive harder than the average driver =)

but then again, I don't drive a family car do I? =)

went to RPW yesterday and found out, that it was the clutch and to get the same one, i would be looking around a grand fitted. He also showed me the carbon flywheel :P

So i want the clutch and flywheel done at the same time.
