Idling again.... sorry

Post by shaneg »

Hey, i have read all your posts here and all the other links...
heres the scenario.. play by play

Car goes to bed about 10pm.. gets a good 12hrs sleep
Next morning about 10am or so, turn key, no touching of accelerator, it revs up to 2/5 to 3 rpm, goes back to 1, starts hunting a bit then drops just below 1 it runs okish.. i can put it in gear and drive away.. dies sometimes on occasion if i leave it to idle for more than 2 mins..
Now if i do the same exccept tap the accelerator after i turn it over it dies straight away, same if it is idling okish and then i give it some gas..
So usually i gently touch then gas so it idles just on or over 1 rpm..

I know you are gonna say.... stepper motor...
But it has had a brand new one installed 4 months ago, along with a new o2 sensor...
I was thinking of the throttle pulley as it has some slack in the cable leading to the air intake thing.... looks like a carby?? im used to 2 stroke bikes.. much simplier.. how much slack should there be?? it has about 1.5 to 2 cm of slack
But read one one of the links from complete fto that resetting your ecu sometimes fixes idling, so i have just done it, as well as pulled the stepper motor off and cleaned it, (shouldve done one to diagnose it properly but oh well) and it fired up first pop, but it was only 2 hours since i drove it last, i'll let you know tomorrow morning if it fixed it...

Anyway, the car is only $3000 so if it starts sh*t its not a big deal, i dont mind leaving my foot on the gas a bit so it idles...

yep, found a ECU reset whenever I'm trying to make the life of my current stepper motor last a little longer (ie cleaning it) does wonders. Just will take a while to adjust itself to a proper position. if the problem comes back as the stepper motor readjusts maybe it is the wrong one.

dont think its stepper mate....
when it starts to happen again try to check ecu error codes,
it could also be TPS/injectors/fuel filter just to name a few ;)
