G4 suspension setting?

Post by speedcrushdemon »

Hi guys I'm currently using a set of G4 coilovers. Have some doubts on setting up the ride height...

FRONT

Image
1st of all im not sure how the droplinks connect to the coilover itself. The brackets (red arrow shown in pic) can be turned 360 degree when loosen and im not sure where exactly it should be pointing. I currently make it like parallel to the car chassis, would that be alrite?

Image
(not the exact model for fto, couldnt find a better pic sorry)

Also, when it comes to adjusting the ride height, should we adjust the 'red section'? I only adjusted the 'green section', and putting the 'red section' to the bottom. May i know wht's the best way to set the height?

REAR

For my rear ones, i've already replace the shorter droplinks from camskill. But still dont know how low can i go cos i dont want to add extra stress to the rear ARB. Now the gap btw tyre and arch is like less than two fingers... can i go further?

Sometimes i can hear some ticking while turning into a corner, especially at low speed. Wonder if tht caused by 'free-moving' springs between the plates... as when i lowered the car, the plates are not 'clamping' the spring tight enough i suppose... u get wht i mean?

Sorry for confusing u guys cos it's hard to explain my problems to u all...

Can anyone help me on this? Thanks for looking!

You might want to see if you can grab an old stock shock to compare. The bracket is actually on a bit of an angle.. If you get it wrong it will result in the swaybar pulling too tight.

The green section is the spring preload and you should not be using it to adjust the ride height. The ride height is adjusted using the red section you pointed out. Im sorry, I dont know what a good spring preload rate should be for G4's on an FTO... best speak to a suspension specialist to get that set right. Its quite important.

Probably... but if you find the rear swaybar being too stressed, you might need to go to a Whiteline adjustable set.
