do the water pump also.
pump is about $80 and the belt is another $100-$120 depending where you go.
labour would be around the $450 mark
then there's your tappets, if your's is a gpx then you should get them adjusted if you haven't done so, that'll set you back another $250 unless you know how to do it yourself.

if you're doing the timing belt you should do the pump with it otherwise its two lots of labour you have to pay.
pump - cheapest place will be kempys in NZ
timing belt - i got it from an asian auto shop in cabra T987 Gates
i go to maytech in moorebank, if you can make it there, drop by and have a chat to the guy, Mayan.[/url]

$450.00 labour is a bit steep. I managed to change mine in no time. If I had to do the same again wont take anywhere near 6-8 hours labour.
I remember mitsubsihi dealer quoted me $360.00.

Mate make sure when belt is done you do the waterpump, tensioners, ideles and cam seals its easy to do while belt is off if you dont do then you will just have to do it all over again..... as for tappets they can be done any time you dont need to remove timing belt for that

got a good quote from Bursons. $229 for timing belt kit. still sourcing for water pump.

I pressume that kit includes tensioner and seals etc otherwise its expensive and as said before kempys is prob best for waterpump

Be careful with that, At that price the kit probably does not have a tensioner in it. Mitsubishi charge $396 for a genuine tensioner (what a rip....)

are the prices alright?
I'm replacing the belt myself at the moment, and most associated parts. Here are the prices I've paid.
::Auto One - Newtown
$ 90.00 - T987 timing belt
::Camskill UK
$ 60.50 - Waterpump
$188.15 - Hydraulic Tensioner
$ 47.28 - Cambelt Center Idler Pulley
$ 37.82 - Cambelt Tensioner
Luckily I wasn't charged import duty on the camskills parts which has saved me some money. Not sure how much the labour will be. Planning on getting the work done in the coming week.

damn i was quoted A$138 including postage for the waterpump from kempys!
And Dayco timing belt kit from Bursons for $229 which includes belt, idler, oil seat kit, and tensioner.
Havent got time to search for quotations from garages to fix them! but should be looking at at least $400 labour...

I still have the kit with me, couldn't find any mechanics who charge me less than $400...

I got a water pump from TLC Automotive for $88. Its a "Tru Flow" brand - part number TF4012.
And when doing the timing belt, its not always necessary to do the tensioners. First, check if they are ok. If they aint worn, dont replace 'em. Save yourself some money.

Oh, and Im not surprised they're asking $400 - I think thats cheap considering whats involved in the job. Its an ass.

ya, $400 labour for replacing your own supplied timing belt kit and waterpump.
Alright then....i'll get it done.
Hehe, one mechanic said its an absolute nightmare for this service on a FTO. But i asked if he have done any FTO...NO. Alright, better leave him alone.
Just wondering, directing to sydney people, where do you service your FTO???
