VERY STRANGE Gear Problems

Okay, i got a 4speed tip GPvR and its done 61k
Was driving normally and usually ill be up in gear 4 by 50km's ... was driving today with mum to uncles and ... the mivec nearly kicked in! i thought i was in tip mode and forgot to change
I havent tried gear 3, since theres no roads safe enough to do it. But yeah encountered weird problem just today ...
My gears change very strangely in auto. eg, 1 to 2 anywhere between 3k - 7k rpm and 2 to 3 would be 3k - 6k rpms. Long ago about 2k-3k rpm and it would change gears.
Im sure this isnt normal ... what could be the answers to this? (i filled up unleaded and decided to try unleaded premium 98, the car was just a tad under half full and i filled up 20bucks of premium unleaded, maybe the mix of petrol? (i dont think soo though)
HELP PLOX,
Thanks guys
Edit : At what RPMS do YOU tip drivers whos driving in auto change gears at?

Around 2500rpm. i would reset ECU, then take for drive, then check error codes. If theres no problems i wouldnt really worry about. You might also want to do a oil change/flush

4000rpm for me.

first observation. why were u not using 98?
second, depends on how much throttle you are using to when it changes.
thirdy the combination of an extra 150 kgs in the car would result in longer changes with the same throttle.

completely depends on throttle. usually 2500rpm. around 3.5 for more throttle. 6-7 is when your gunning it.

This was normal "slow highway" driving ... i was like wtf is going on here, my mivec tryna kick in
i reckon its the error codes, going to be testing out the car abit more tomorrow to make sure the problem is error in the ECU.
And bushido im taking about driving in auto mode where the gears changes itself for you

. But when in tip i change at 3k rpm normally and 6k when wanna show off the mivec ... and i redline the fto when a teggy or excel / mirage is giving me a go
... yeah you wouldnt want to be the next owner of MY FTO xD

Remember it also adapts to your driving style so if you are driving at high revs for a while, motorways or Highland roads here in Scotland for example, when you go back to normal driving it rev a bit higher before it changes gears for a while.
But it should settle down again before too long.

Mate in full auto mode your auto adapts to your driving style!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INVECS
Either the above or your transmission is crapping itself and not shifiting into 4th causing "mivec"
I bet you had no error codes for you transmission, maybe constant 1 hertz flashes.
Also the high rpm shifts would meant you were pushing the car? Does that mean you were trying to show off to your own mother??

Oh nah of course not, why be showing off when my cars stock as a rock?
This was "slow" driving and the car never shift to 2nd gear until like 50kmh ... weird
But can this be a sign of my gearbox saying "fcuking gey driver always accidently pushing D into neutral"? i usually forget to tap over from drive to tip mode and would sometimes accdently push into neutral (not at high speeds though)

i have this as well, like from gear 2 - 3 it sometimes doesnt want to shift thats why i always drive in Tiptronic mode, lol and shifting at 3rpm every gear change. The only time im in auto is when im tight on petrol and want to get more out of the tank.

im using 95 cos im a poor uni student lol. Do you reckon these's a big difference between the 95 & 98 (as far as engine health and performance)?

well for me when using 95, the engine noise was not as "smooth" as 98
performance wise ... you wont tell a difference besides the sound and smoke produced out of exhaust (very minor)
engine health ... no problems using 95 ... why would they make unleaded thats "harmful" to cars
at the moment im testing shell v-power ($1.75 PLUS PER LITRE) ...
to be honest it sounds more quiet like unleaded, but i sometimes "feel" the car reponses quicker when i step on the throttle. Hope that helps ... but unleaded is fine (my mums boss who drives a 200k merc uses cheap 95 unleaded lol)

Unleaded is not fine. based on that thery why not just run 91?
The FTO is designed for a higher octane 98 RON at a minimum....IMO I ran 100 RON an also noticed a bit of a differnece which indicates the tune tends toward 98/99 over than of anything under 98. They are jap cars designed for higher grade fuelds than AUS or AUS deisgned cars.
Here's an old poll :
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... light=fuel
It will not only run much better but help stop detonation - not a minor thing on warmer days. I would never use 95 unless you had to, it simply starts to retard the timing under load and you go slower ... unles thats what you want.
Dont use 95, use BP Ultimate...

wow, i only use 95 whenever 98 is unavailable, which is pretty much 70 of the time. I better check the exact location of the service stations where they have 98!
