noise.

Post by bushido »

A silly question but how do you check that your brake pades are shot? I was driving last night and heard this weird noise coming from the front right wheel. When i slowed down slowly a solid on solid noise arose. Didnt really notice it on hard stops. Also happened after taking the foot off the throttle after a little bit of contstant throttle. How likely is it for one pad to wear out?

I dont what else it could be. Havent had the time to take the wheel off and do an inspection yet since its been dark all the time. Could something have ciome loose?

Usually the brake pads have a metal tab that touches the disc when the pads are low & you get a light squeal.

Generally the drivers side front pads tend to wear more than the passenger, as a large portion of the time the driver is the only person in the car & the drivers side brakes have to not only haul up the weight of the car, but the weight of you on that side as well. Alternatively you can get uneven wear on one side if you have a sticky or seized piston in one of the calipers.

Just pull your wheel off & have a look. 10mm is new, 1mm left is not good.

sounds like they on the warning tags,
remove wheel then you should be able to square on the calliper and see how much 'meat' is left on them or remove pad and check that way

don't also discount that it could be your rotor needing a machining.

hes saying that sometimes small stones etc can get stuck in your brakes and make that sound. We would get heaps of ppl comin in complaining of noisey brakes, its usually it would be

1. Pads hitting their low warning tab (either replace brakes or if they still have enough just bend the tab away from disc)
2. Glazed brakes (emery the buggers)
3. Stone or something stuck in them
