Defectage

yeah i got defected tonight, cops here in coffs clearly know nothing about FTO's but are willing to defect for anything.
Here's my bitch lol
Heading down to shopping centre to get a pizza and paddy wagon parked out front turns lights on and guy pulls us over right there. I ask was i speeding officer? he says no but your car's too loud. Quizes me about my road angel (im just like it shows my speed n showed him). Then defects me for exhaust and condensation in one of my headlights!! what the?
He's then asking me if its like a RWD or FWD car, and where the turbo was (riight??).
So silly.
So anyways off the road from 2 morrow and gotta get it engineered which is at least only an hour away and wallet lightening experience..
I don't understand though, was given no sticker or fine recipt just told i had 24hrs and said he'd decide what my fine was and send it to me in the post. Also learnt never to ask why they are defecting straight up coz this is the first time its been pulled over since i bought it, he said he'd b adding more things to defect list and bigger fine!!

What a bastard of a cop. And very unlucky...Hopefully you do get away with it. Cos, someone correct me if im wrong, but dont they fill out a defect notice on the spot if they are going to defect you ?

i got the piece of paper but it wasn't fully filled out but no sticker attached to car.

If it's not filled out correctly, don't do sh*t and tell them to stick it; it won't stand up in court.

It actually sounds like he was just bluffing you... but anyway, if it's not legal, either a) make it legal or b) be prepared to cop it from time to time (pun intended)

If he didnt give u the fine then & there tell em to piss off!!! They have to give it to on the spot. If that was the case to just send fines out the lazzy pricks would never leave the Station they would sit on the net & just go throught then net sending out tickets to eveybodys car they didnt like!!

Too loud?
I can't wait till i get my FTO and get a cop to say that.
Then and there if they think it's too loud, i'll chuck on the Fi BTL's and make em squirm

Seriously though..how so is it too loud? last time i checked, you would need one hell of a massive exhaust system for the little 6A12 to produce what would be classified as 'loud', especially so if the cop has heard a 2JZ Chaser with twin Apexi N1's which was legal.

Oh, and condensation in the headlight is quite legal unless it obstructs a major part of the view, which it likely would..on a friggin stock VL.

About 95 db in QLD and it doesnt take much too be over that

the maximum noise emission from an exhaust is 90 decibals (in NSW)

however im pretty sure that any muffler or muffler modification which changes the sound of a stock exhaust is technically a defect, i doubt anyone would get a defect for that though...

Nah, it's not anything that changes your exhaust from stock... it's anything that changes your exhaust to be outside of the legal limit in terms of noise, emissions, direction (ie. exhaust out side of car rather than back of it) etc.

Got some awesome news.
I went to the coffs station and asked if i could get a highway patrol officer to go over the paperwork, after checking it he said it was complete crap (in different words of course) then checked over my car and cleared the defect right there!! So don't have to go through all the crap and tape that goes with those defects!!

I got tested with my old 2.5" Exhast with cat and all (Twin 4" Tips) and she was 98db...

So i went to court showing my reciept for purchase of complete exhaust system costing me $1500....

They gave me a fine and said i was right to go... and the cost of fixing the defect was hopefully enough to stop me doing anything else to my car......

The New exhaust is 3" through two 6" Tips... good for 118db...

if he has another crack at me i will do a formal complain i was going to this time but since i don't have to pay fines and spend effort engineering everything im not going to take it further. Pretty sure he'll b cut and come back for more now
