HELP oil/grease all over

Post by bushido »

Looked at the front left wheel area today after washing the car and it was covered in grease. First thoughts was stuffed shocks, but they are 2 months old. Car was sitting properly so it couldnt be that. Closer inspection showed that the lowered end of the coilovers, the height adjustable part had busted into the CV joint plasticky thing.

What shoudl I do to fix this? And it wouldnt be a warranty/fitment problem. since I specified the height?

Wow... thats an attack of dickhead. They shoulda seen that sh*t when putting them in... more to the point, the bloody coilovers shouldnt go down that far if they gonna hit! Did they adjust the pre-load on the springs correctly or just drop down the retaining locks to get that height?

Oh and 2 cases of beer to fix

Dont drive it mate (except to where it is going to be repaired). If you do, youll cook the knuckle because there isnt grease in there anymore. At the moment you are looking at a $30 boot. If you drive it youll be looking at a new driveshaft, not to mention risking it catching on the bottom of that strut and possibly wrecking your shock among other things.

agree with both ben and dstocks, dont drive it, easy fix though as long as you havent done any damage to the cv joint. That black thing that has ripped the hole in your boot should be wound up, way higher than that so it has either collapsed (failed) or been fitted incorrectly. take some pics of the other side

1 suggestion would be, not to go to Pedders for a start  Bunch of cowboys.

It looks to me - and I may be wrong as I've never played with G4's before - but that lower threaded section is more of an end cap as such - because all the adjustment of height is done above the mount to the hub.

Can you get hold of that section thats dropped down & try to wind it back up? Much like the other side? Does it have a small allen headed screw somewhere in the lock ring that actually locks the thing into place?

Too many ways to adjust them then promptly sais how good their coilovers were because theyre only adjustable from the top.

Oh they did say that someting about how eveyrtime the car turns the strut turns and it loosened up. I asked how come it happened to one of them, and they said that they were racing coilovers not for the road and that it was the coilovers fault. 8O

im lebo i could of told you that never go to lebo mechanics you will find that most of the parts in your car isntead of being genuine mitsubishi are now some aftermarket brand and htey have the real stuff. You might also find that one bolt was loose or something quick 2dollar fix but instead they insist to change the whole thing and rip you off but really only tighten that one bolt.

I oculda told you all that ;)

Ben is right, the black adjuster down the bottom has unwound itself, The only way that would of happened, is if it wasnt done up tight in the first place and by them saying "theres two many places for adjustment" says to me lound and clear that they have fucked up. Im very surprised to hear you say that you took it to pedders after all the other people on here have bagged them out. I have never dealt with them and never will because of the stories ive heard on here.

No mate i hjavbe not had a single problem with mine, but in saying that i instaled them myself

Why did they cable tie your brake lines around the coil over instead of using the bracket thing ???

Also, unless yours is different to mine, I can't see your sway bar bolting into the suspension ... Unless yours is different and bolts up to the lower control arms...
