Where 2 Get You FTO Serviced?

Post by xSlurpee »

Hi, i recently did a pretty stupid thing and bought a totally THRASHED 97' GPvR. It needs a lot of work done to her (nothing major, just replacing oils, water, battery, wiring, brakes etc) ... is there a recommended workshop in NSW that knows what they're doing to an FTO compared to those asian garages my mum takes her camry to

So, where do you guys get your FTO serviced at? (not the 100k serviced, just general servicing)
Sorry im still a total dud on cars at the moment :(

... or can a forum member on here living in syd who can help do the replacing oils and have a look at my FTO and see what else it needs work on? will be paying good money of course :D

Ben if your interested i can take my FTO to X (wow finally i put algebra to use) or you can bring some equipment and do it at my place (i'll include KFC and case of whatever beer you want too)

and few months later, ill give someone the oppotunity to grab my neat version r wing if they can de-wing my fto and install a gt wing for me. bwahaha

Thats fine mate. What are workshop prices these days? Somewhere between 60 & 80 bucks an hour??

Here's a list of bits you'll need to grab before hand:

- Power steering / air con belt 6PK1080
- Alternator belt 4PK940
- Oil Filter. Ask for Z411 'Coopers' brand
- Fuel Filter. Ryco part no Z441
- 5 litres of your favourite oil
- 6 sparkies (BKR7EKC-N)

All this stuff is available from you local Auto One / Repco / Supercheap type stores. Best ring them a day in advance as that PS belts is not all that common, might take them a day to get it in for you.

Also, what do you have in the way of an air filter? Is it standard? Do you want to try a K&N replacement panel? Do you want to go for a pod filter? Cause I can do that for you as well.

And from your PM, by the sounds of it you want to do a bit more.

- replace all oils, (brakes / engine / gearbox / steering)

No probs, just means we need to buy some brake fluid, ps fluid & gearbox oil as well.

- fill up water

Need to grab some coolant then too.

- check my cables

No probs.

- clean air filter

Is it a standard panel type or pod? I've got the gear to clean a pod or K&N panel, but if its standard, it cant be cleaned, it needs to be replaced.

- check/adjust my idle

No probs. Is it idling badly? Looked into possibility of a dodgy stepper? Or you just want to clean it & reset the ECU & see what happens?

You can pick up a pod filter for about $50 bucks which s probably only 24 more than a replacement panel. Will sound angrier & you'll pickup half a dozen kws. Do it! :D

Cant be cleaned???? Yes it can, compressed air, thats how standard air filter are suppose to be cleaned. Also when you buy a new filter (OEM) you should use compressed air to blow out the excess oil.

Are you drunk? Or just a tightarse?

Find me a garage that 'cleans' standard air filters.

There's no oil in a standard filter either. They're completely dry.

Well i dont know if its the same here as NZ but the amount of oil that came out of the standard filter was amazing. I worked for nissan for 4 yrs while i did my apprenticeship and everyone was cleaned before inserting. IT EVEN SAYS IT ON THE BOX.

So you just replace your filter every 10,000km????

pods are amazingly easy to fit. as to which one is "best" its a completely subjective choice.many goodones out there, apexi power intake, k&n ones, etc.

lol listen to you lot

Other Sydney siders can come watch if they like.

As for pod choice... well, depends on how much coin ya got. To my way of thinking, on an FTO, a $50 no name brand versus a $150 K&N makes very little difference performance wise. What is big a difference is usually the longevity of the filter. A K&N you can wash every second day & it'll still last you 10 years. Cheap ones tend to rust & fall apart after time.

Interesting tests on filters the poms did a few years back:
