Thought I'd start a fresh thread for this as both the flywheel & diff will be going in at the same time. Still haven't found a diff, but the flywheel arrived today. Its an aluminium 7 bolt unit with an FTO ring gear. Its super bloody light!! Did someone say 'motor bike revving?'
Apparently, for it to the fit the FTO specifically, it still needs the crank mating face to be machined larger. As it is currently, Im thinking its a direct fit for the Galant 6A12. I'll also apparently need longer bolts than the stock units, so Im off to Coventry fasters this arvo for some high tensile (f**king expensive) bolt shopping.
Oh and if any one has a stock FTO flywheel lying about, let me know. It'd be handy for me to match it up with one & have it machined correctly prior to pulling my existing flywheel out. Will save the car from being off the road for too long.
ralliart cams, bord out TB, port n polish, extractors, full exhaust, NITROUS, LSD, aluminium flywheel, big ass brakes...
oooooaarh oooarh ooarh its a balltearer!
Racing in a VL is like being in the Special Olympics, coz even if you win, you're still a RETARD
Im with you on trying to find an LSD.... Needing one badly...
Give you a track run when i get my lsd and coils put on???
Better yet, lets go crash a WRX track day.... (i'll be a couple hours north of syd in 2 weeks time... hehehe)
I'd actually be very interested to see who'd be quicker round the track... yours probably has more sensible power and traction... I think you'd take me...
If you need good deal on photography, let me know.
I dunno, did you get the alloy or the chrome moly? I would have thought you'd gone with the alloy same as this.
Yeah, I'd be up for more track work for sure. LSD is killing me at the moment, I cant accelerate out of corners unti lm almost straightened up completely, otherwise the inner (unweighted) wheel just smokes up.
I reckon It'd be an interesting run, if the track had long straights I'd probably struggle to keep up a bit, but if it was full of twisites I'd be in with a chance

Sorry to go off topic here but I was under the impression porting the heads for our engines would be useless as they come from they come from the factory pretty well done and porting more for older engines. Is this incorrect??

Its true in a sense that old fashioned engines never really had the best castings for flow, and that it has improved signifigantly over the years, but there is always room to remove more metal - especially with us naturally aspirated kids looking for every horsepower we can find.
You won't need to machine the flywheel, thats already been done at RPW.
As far as flywheel bolts go, we have those in stock as well if you want them
As far as LSD goes, we have both types in stock either the traditional Cusco / Kaaz style Clutch LSD, or we can offer the much much better Quaife ATB Differential which I highly highly recomend.
They have all the benefits of the clutch pack styles for grip with none of the side effects, no clunking, life time warranty and the car actually goes faster round a race track with half the effort.
Having had both types, this is why RPW is primarily a Quaife supplier as a preference first now.

Ahh sweet, I wasnt sure as the machining is mentioned on the invoice. Already bought the bolts this arvo thou
At this stage with the diff, Im trying to get an viscous type OEM unit out of a version R box. Issue is, they are a litle scarce. If it comes down to it, I will go with a Quaiffe unit.
