HAS ANYONE DONE THIS?

Post by vipfto »

I'm going to replace my powersteer a/c belt but want to bypass the a/c (for more power) I will need a shorter belt of course so has anyone done this and do they remember what size belt it was?
I dont want to have to keep swapping belts until i get right one....

Yep, shorter belt is 6PK938. As opposed to the standard 6P1080.

bipassing your aircon wont give you any noticeable increase of power will it?

when aircon is turned off doesnt the pully on aircon compressor just free spin without turning the compresser over?

True, its only a minor gain. If your gonna do it thou & piss off the air con, the best gain you can get is by pulling the 10kg or air con related parts out of the car.

from memory theres just a tensioner at the bottom undo that and belt will slip off. You will however need to remove the alternator belt first

Yeah, just loosen off the lower tensioner all the way. In order to loosen it, you need to loosen off the centre nut, then the lower adjusting nut. If you want you can remove the centre nut all the way & pulley will come off all together.

There are then 2 ways of setting it up. Both relate to the top setup pictured here.
If you remove the compressor pump all the way, you can setup just like the original picture - with the belt going round the tensioner. If you dont remove the compressor, you need to feed the belt straight back around after the ps pump & run it over the tensioner. You then need to adjust the tensioner right up to eliminate the slack. There is also another spot where you can mount the tensioner higher if you want.

Ha ha I know how to take belts off no prob  Not a noob
prob was they gave me wrong size belt and there was no way it would fit around the tensioner but looked like a direct fit over around crank and powersteer pully I really did not want to remove these to make it fit 8O
