In FTO Fridge

Post by FtoSam »

Righto...

I started this project about a year ago... and last weekend i thought about finishing it...

Basically i stripped apart a 12v cooler to put in my center console (have no storage thanks to old 6 stacker anyway) and after a bit of trial and error, i found that the unit was no-where near powerfull enough... and only dropped the temp to around 15 deg... (amb was only 23!!)

So i sort of gave up on it...

Untill i got bored last week!

new higher powered unit with extra cooling, bigger fan, more insulation, better seal and higher quality Heat sink...

now she runs a little better... just got to figure out a seal for the lid and i'll be right...

btw: not posting up DIY on this as i have a high suspicion that this will catch fire.... lol...

not to mention irreversable cutting of the center console...

pics:

Edit: ADDED BETTER PICS

but wouldn't it have a condenser? doesn't the cooling process create condensation?

negatory.... it uses heat pipes to transfer heat....

It basically sucks any warmth out of the air in the fridge... then expels it into the air...

Because its such a small area, its fine...

It works on the principle that "cold" doesnt exist... it is merely the absence of heat, and not the other way around... so by removing warmth, it makes it cold...

You can fit 4-6 Stubbies in it easily...

And the amount of heat it generates varies... when she starts up she pumps out a bit (no more than the air con on warm and about as much as the fan on minimum.

After 2 mins or so its cold and sort of cools down to just a bit warm...

buts it pales in comparison to the heat radiating through the firewall...

I have no aircon so the windows are always down... (if it rains i wont drive the car)
