Hey great car man, I have a 96 GPX manual too!

where did you get your dials from? and how much? are they custom made?

one thing i noticed was that from the pics of your car, i can tell you it is not lowered 45mm front AND back, the back is lowered by 15-20mm by the looks of it. i thought i would mention it coz when you do end up lowering it more, you will avoid any unwanted surprises

come to think of it, it might be 20-25mm, not 45... oh well i dunno for sure. it just looks like 45mm to me coz the originals are very high up so i'm only assuming... but what sort of surprises do you mean??

i got my dials from vincent @ Motorware in melb for $500 fitted. if you're interested, let me know and I'll hook you up with him, but you need to know your way around wires or you'l have to drive down to Melb to get it fitted...

...and by the way, yes the Carrozeria double DIN is up for sale (check the for sale section in this forum) but they are still Jap-spec meaning you cannot tune into Oz radio stations... whereabouts are you at?

surprises as in, you think its 45mm lowered, so you order 55mm lowered springs and you end up dropping from the real 15mm another 40mm and surprise!!! i hope i explained it well :? oh btw your front looks lowered 40-45mm (so front is lowered more than back)

about the dials, are they ready made or custom made? did you have to take out the needles?

Im in Northcote. About 40mins away from Springvale and Clayton. You think you can help me tune my FTO. I wanna get a Apexi RSM aswell but don't know anyone that will fit it.

G1, i'm hoping to lower the car 60mm up front and 45mm at the rear... i've seen cars which have been lowered 15mm (rear) and 45mm (front), but the front still has a lot of clearance between the top of the tyre and the bottom side of the wheel guards.

The dials are ready made, and you won't need to take the needles out. Pop the panels, unscrew the dash/gauge, slip on the dials and stick it on dbl-sided tape, wire it up with its own transformer, whack the lot back in and bob's your uncle! ...sounds easy, but i assure you - it's not!

Chop Stick, since you're kinda up north - i suggest you hook up with ART (Auto Racing Technik) at Coburg/Preston i think... they do custom turbo installations so RSM should be a walk in the park for them. However, if you're really keen there's a couple of workshops in the east that can help you tune your FTO... There' Pro-Mech in Richmond which I've heard a lot of good things about, and there's Racing Zone in Nunawading and Evolution-R at Clayton for starters... they're not cheap, but they're good at what they do. There's a servicing thread under the Victoria section in this forum - check it out.

Rev Zone or is it Racing Zone in Nunawading can fit them, but make sure they tune it properly.

As when i got my done, the guy who installed it did a great job but Terry who tune it put the wrong setting, he put the wrong weight & put 4 cyclinder instead of 6 so it give the wrong output!

OMG so you want it looking LOWER than i had my car originally when i bought it??!!!

Image

thats pretty low enough dont you think?? let me warn you now if you go lower you will have major scraping problems even without a kit (and from what i read you are planning to put on a front lip!) most dangerous part is your engine sump might get a leak if you keep on bottoming out on it.

as you know im selling the springs and koni shocks from the car and it looked like that above picture... i have since lengthened the travel of the rear shocks and moved the stopper up 30mm. so the rear should look more like the front now with them on.

G1, how low was your car front & back in that pic?? i thought they were 2.5" lowered all round, so that's why i wanted to be slightly more conservative about my ride height...

as i plan to fit a bodykit soon, i may hold off on that thought for now...

MAC, i paid $2800 for the wheels incl the tyres from Donellans at Box Hill, and the muffler brand is Hyper-Tech ($540 fitted). i think is oz-made, so for being a true blue i reckon it's good value (compared to HKS items which are like $1,200 just for the muffler alone). Besides, it sounds like a dream and works beautifully...

O2NV, actually after comparing to the ride height i have now (-40mm front, -15mm back) that pic is more like -50 to 55mm front and back. I can tell you now the rear tyres used to scrape on the rear guards going over any sort of bump unless you do 5kph sideways everytime! and forget about backseat passengers! steep driveways were also a pain.

i can tell you now under normal street driving conditions some scraping will be unavoidable!

thats why i raised my original rear koni shocks by 30mm, and if someone buys it, or i put it back on i know it will be ok, and the rear will be balanced with the front in terms of the gap between tyre and wheel arch.

if you are gonna get a kit, then dont go more than -40mm front and -15mm back and thats still asking for 5kph sideways action over all bumps . any more than that you will need to replace shocks for sure.

MAC, you should check out Tuffy mufflers, they have the X-Force titanium mufflers available. Im not too sure about the carbon fibre though but you can only ask

i believe they are no genuine titanium mufflers... they are in fact stainless-steel barrels, but wrapped in titanium/carbon fibre sheeting (like mine).

G1, if your ride height is similar to mine, i don't see why you are getting so many bumps on your guards. To date I have not scraped my guards (except at full lock when doing 3-point-turns) and rough corrugations/bumps have not bottomed out or hit the guards at all... could it be that your shocks are too soft/worn??

After having a close look at my ride height, all i need is 10mm lower at the front and rear, and after that i will be fitting a bodykit which will bring my overall ground clearance even lower... I've never been a big fan of cars that are too low (like the height on your pic), but atm it is still slightly a little high for me... That's why i'm still waiting for some adjustable coilovers, then my problems are solved!

I am talking about my old ride height, i raised the shocks of my old konis which is not on the car at the moment. my new ride height is just perfect, I never have problems scraping at all.

I already had my Konis checked out and they are ride adjustable and the guys that did the job said it's all in good order.

If you get height adjustable coilovers then you cant go wrong thats for sure :) which ones are you getting and how much??

about the mufflers, I dunno all the technicalities, but the weight difference was noticable as you can easily pick it up with one arm.

how hard is it to pick up any muffler with just one hand?? j/k...

not sure which coilovers to get yet, but i can get them second hand from Japan for a bargain apparently... Anything from CUSCO, TEIN, Bilstein etc - it's a matter of looking for them...

Might try to stay away from TEINs, coz they are waaaaay too bloody stiff for everyday driving. Last resort might be KMACs or Konis...

Are your Konis height & damper adjustable??

ok smartarse you can pick up any muffler up with one arm but with how much ease was my point, but im sure you know what i mean! :x :D

yeah teins are meant to be for track use from what i heard...

my konis are not height adjustable... only ride/damper adjustable. i would be asking a lot more if they were height adjustable! and i dont think i would have taken them off my car in that case  since the reason i took them off was coz the rear was originally (not anymore) too low... now im considering putting them back in if someone wants to buy my kyb damper adjustable shocks and apexi springs (in the car now), i also have kg/mm springs.

ive got teins on my car, and the ride is reallllly stiff, but its good on canberra roads, as they are mostly reallly smooth, well most of them..
Took me a while to get use to em, but im happy with them now. really hard to get the car to do anything wrong in the dry............ :D

TEINs would be a nightmare to use on Melbournian roads due to the tram tracks and tight-arse councils who won't repair urban streets/roads... my teeth would fall off sooner than an aging old hag! :?

Hey Jono, anymore pics of your car? is that your ride in your avatar? i like it... i been thinking about white wheels on my car as well, but everybody is getting into the red/white theme...
