Gday guys - GP-R owner in Japan

Post by snowdrift77 »

Gday all, just joined up and thought Id drop a line in the n00bs section.

Ive got a slightly modiefied GP version R, that I bought for tooling around at the ghymkhana track on the weekends (driving a course around cones for a fastest time).
Im a newbie when it comes to track driving, so I decided an FF car like the FTO would be something easy to learn in, and handle well around the course. For damn sure I was right,, if only I was a better driver

When I got my GP-R, it wasnt in the best shape and had a lot of parts missing because it had been set for track use. It was a long way from original condition. I did a bit of work cosmetic work to get it a bit more practical for the street.
New interior carpet, drivers seat, rear spoiler, Rays 16inch wheels, tyres.
Current mods: cold air intake, Apexi air cleaner, FRP bonnet, 5Zigen full racing exhaust system, Tein coilovers, lowered .
Looks more respectable for street now, but still very much a track set up. Rough as hell ride due to spring settings, and loud as hell with the 5zigen exhaust. No problems here in Japan, but Id have no end to problems with the cops trying to drive it back home in oz ;)

Nice to meet ya'all

How is the FTO treated in Japan? I mean how do people compare it, say we would compare specs between an r33 and the fto. Treated as a proper car or what?

Oh and how hard are parts to find?

Well, to be honest I very rarely ever see an FTO on the road here in Japan. I live near Tokyo, so its not like Im out in the sticks (in Japan there isnt really anywhere 'in the sticks'). Surprising, seeing it was car of the year here, twice. But I know there are hardcore modding clubs like 'Project F' about, so I know Im just not looking in the right places.

The ones I have spotted are usually completely stock standard, unmodified whatsoever GPXs. Ive only ever seen GP-Rs up for sale at car yards, aside from my own which is in crap condition compared with others :eye: One thing Ive noticed is people dont dress up their cars here much, chrome wheels, big body kits, art work and neon lights are rare to see. I think folks here like to go for the hardcore track setup.

People still like the FTO here though, and I still get a lot of looks and comments from Japanese, because it looks so much more vicious and sporty than all the brand new spaceships they are all driving around in !

oodLes - Still a lot of R33s about here, but theyre not compared with the FTO here. Usually they are compared with the Integra Type Rs, which are all over the place here. Damn Hondas,, hehe

Working on the pics- Ill get some up when Ive sorted a web site to host them on.

Parts are usually not too hard to find. Really specialist stuff means might have to enquire at pro tuning shops or Project F, but usually can find something without needing to do that...
Original version R stuff is damn hard to come by though.. Luckily I have a Mitsubishi dealer 500m down the road from me, but it aint exactly cheap.

Yep, right about Yahoo auctions. In fact I have an auction account on yahoo Japan :)
Oh wow, I just found a set of GP-R front seats, complete in black trim up for sale !
Now thats rare even for japan 8O
