Hi, left home 6am this mornign for boxing day specials was driving in the cty was going to park, and i couldnt engage any of the gears none of them would go in to gear i poped the bonet and noticed smoke coming from the area circled below, its whee this metal rod goes in to the gearbox it has a rubber boot around it and i think a oil line close by... and like a burning rubber smell on the left hand side of the car, i had the car towed to ultra tune because i had a free tow, i tried starting the car at ultra tune it started could engage gears when i pushedi n the cluth the clutch would squeak, and id get that smell form the engine i got to wait to tomorrow before they see it im sleepign in teh car otnight cus its not a secure location where the car is Helppp please...

I think the squeaking is beacuse there is not enough clutch fluid ... I have that squeaking noise at the moment ... I have not had a chance to sus it out yet... Maybe I should by the sounds of it ... :?

ok all was the thrust bearing,clutch is slightly worn so changing the hwole clutch kit i got a Exedy Sports Tuff Heavy Duty Clutch (MBK-7277HD) for 383.00 from AutoBarn on Special.

Big fat intake pipe + looks to be hanging pretty low ..

I would suggest that the intake pipe / pod filter could be resting on the gearbox mechanism exactly where you said that smoke was coming out of..

You can suss out whats happening by having someone sit in the car & change gears & see if it works or if you get a clunking / whirring noise or not..

so yeh, just make sure that nothing is obstructing the gearbox mechanisms, the rods / arms / levers etc etc

IF you still can't see what the prob is, don't drive it... take it to your mechanic..

when it happened to me, it was because the support bracket for the air filter snapped & the pod filter was obstructing the gears from being able to be changed .. when it happened, oil spurted out all over the place, I'm assuming from the dipstick - so the smoke you saw could have just been oil being burned off..

ok had the cluth changed and now im after the input housing orsomething it bolts to thebbell housing, has four bolts or osmething i need it and im about to cry cus i dont wanna wait 4weeks to get it form mitsubishi thanks guys.

ack, should've taken a closer look at the pic .. might've realised that it was a manual.. :oops: :roll:

drive shaft boot. Bascially its split causing crease to go all over your engine. This is the smoke burning rubber you can smell.

ok all got the part form chdstone mitsubishi great guy if you need parts talk to loo he does verything calls wreckers everything he odes, great guy. He goes when changing the lcutch in fto's you should always change the input drive shaft its $22 from mitsubishi and the part number is MD747279 cheers .
