Air con - Ticking?

Post by Atreyu »

Hey guys, i havent been on here in way too long, but i am pleasantly surprised with the sites new look, very nice!

the reason for this is i had to take the FTO off the road for a little while, but shes coming back now :) its been WAY to long.. :(

ANYWAYS just before i took her off the road i noticed when i set the thermo to under 25 degrees on the air con it would start ticking at me.. donk donk donk donk donk - very sequential, like something is trying to move but keeps getting
stopped by something...you dig me??

and i kinda tried to forget about it, and when i went in the car yesterday and tested eveyrhting out again - it started again.. but only when i set if from heat to cold.. ie anything under 25 degrees...

Hey Andrew! Where is the ticking coming from? Under the bonnet or in the dash? If its under the bonnet, its probably the compressor unit clutch failing...

Well its in the dash - sounds like its sorta coming just right of the center vents... 8O today when i started her up again she started ticking straight away without the air con on 8O then i turned the air con on turned it up then down and the sound stopped... i hope it stopped for good, but incase it hasnt what do you think it would be thats ticking in the dash?

Yeah, isn't this sound from the internal flap in the A/C unit that changes the route the air takes from fresh air to recycled? It gets stuck and keeps trying to move, that's the ticking sound.

Just flick the A/C back onto outside air and the sound goes away. It goes away after about 30 seconds of ticking too.

I have this problem too, I have heard the only way to actually fix it is very complicated so for the moment i,'ll keep switching it from recycled to fresh
