tip to manual conversion - just curious.

Post by oneian »

.. is it difficult to do? I have only ever driven manuals, and decided to try the tip which is great..but i have that lingering thought of, mm what would it be like to drive a manual FTO.
So just for starters, is it a big project? HOw much time? How much $? where can i get the spare parts?
i have a 1995 GPX tip, bought 3 weeks ago(looooove the MIVEC roar, the exhaust note is pretty bad, so am getting it changed this week yay)..pics are at newbies column/forum.
Thanks to all..

There's potential for a thread about anything on FTO Australia

LOL well, have a read of the BMW SMG II and III, Lamborghini e gear, VW/Audi/Porsche DSG...etc.

All those "Tiptronic" are faster then standard manual.

Aren't those gearboxes all basically more manuals than auto's anyway. THey have clutches don't they? Just no pedal, they are electrically operated right? Apparantley Evo 10's will come with a padel shift twin clutch gearbox. Or is this the point you where trying to make :D

Just never heard of those gearboxes being referred to as tiptronics is all.

Yes i'm sure everyone understand the point and most people refer any auto system that allow you to change the gear ratio, including CVT as "tiptronics".

Okay fair enough. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Jono. In the latest motor they reckon that details on the Lancer Evo X's driveline have been revealed. They say it will have a twin clutch SST system that is simialr to DSG.
