Gaskets and Seals

Post by dstocks »

I have me an oil leak I need to fix....

I dont suppose anyone knows if there are aftermarket equivalents for rocker cover gaskets and cam seals by any chance. (or by some miracle, are the genuine parts actually reasonably priced)

Can only get 'em genuine mate. But - the rocker gasket is common to the E54A/E64A 6A12 Galants, the cams seals are actually common to about 50 other make & models of Mitsi's, so you shouldn't be hit with grey import markups on either item

I've heard of a few and seen a few fto's leaking at the seals. Crummy rubber things. Usually the rocker cover gasket or the cam/crank seals. Mine's leaking at the cam or crank seal, bergh (at least it's only a few drips).

Yeah Mines only done 65,000 supposedly (although most people that have seen my car and Mechanics have said that it sounds about right). ANd had leaking from the rocker cover and the half moon seals. Replaced and now I have no oil leaks.

Or, would these actually be called cam seals? :?

4 cam seals and a crank seal methinks. The 4 cam seals aren't the same part number though i think. It's two of one and two of another one. Can you please record the part numbers when you get them dstocks ? I will be grabbing some soon too.

There are actually 3 different types of seal you need...

MD153103 - this is the seal that goes on the timing belt end. It is a fairly critical oil seal. It stops oil from the head getting into the timing belt area, which is of course, dry. This part number gives a quantity of 4 (which is how many you need.)

MD180402 - this is the cam seal on the gearbox end of the motor. Again, this part number gives you 4.

MD193910 - This is the half moon seal that goes under the rocker cover on the gearbox end of the motor. The part number gives you 2. You will need 4.

MD309002 - This is the rocker cover gasket itself.

      HUGE WARNING!

cam seals are a real bastard to get off dwayne, seriously set some time aside.... just getting the cams off the pullys is such a bastard! (had to put it in a vice!)

yes, 4 seals, and if your gonna do them youll have to do intake gaskets (2 of them!) and the cam cover gasket so you might as well take the whole head off and do the full set while your at it...

plus, youll be lucky if you can get seperate gaskets as mitsi sell them only in sets around the $600 mark.... youl get oil seals as well if your really keen, they are a bastard as well, if your gonna do them make sure you mark the valves in their seats before you take them out as im sure your aware getting them back in their original position is crutial (and also another bastard!)

i honestly wouldnt bother doing them though, not worth the effort... but a bloody good experiance, so many things can go wrong though. id still do the head though.

check out my pics if their still alive...
note the 5th pic down for what i mean about marking the valves in their seats

      GOOD LUCK!

How much do these parts go for?

I sent an email to the mitsi dealer about a week ago but no reply. Where in Sydney can I buy them?

Just put through a request on price for these. Can get the complete Gasket kit but not sure if they sell individual gaskets (find out I guess) Can also get an aftermarket set that are much cheaper too (I think). Dont know what the quality is like though.

Joejoe - need those dials mate......
