Gnarl of the fto

hi all i w reading some review of certain products and heard that with a air intake system the gnarl of the fto when it hits the mivec point sounds even better is this true? Someone reccomended to me a HKS super mega reloaded airflow? what are your opinions or is there anything that makes the mivec gnarl sound better? Also cost and where to get it from thanks guys.

i got a pod filter off my mate just to see what i sounded like, and it does sound a lot better and throatier, you dont have to wait for mivec though, mine starts a deep growl at around 4000rpm

i was looking at the HKS super power flow reloaded but i am unsure where to get it in melbourne.

does that mean pretty much any air intake just say the apexi power air intake will increase that seductive noise im not after gains in power im affter the seductive sound.

well i got an apexi, and man every time i turn my car off you just hear a massive sound of air getting sucked in

ok have you changed hte original pipes or anything or is there just the apexi power intake with no heat proof box?

its just the fact that the intake isnt enclosed like a traditional filter box is. any pod filter will make that sound, regardless of the brand or how much you pay. less restriction is more noise. just stay away from the sponge type filters as i've heard of them breaking apart and getting sucked into the engine

yeah doesn't matter if you have a stock intake pipe on, it will still make the same sound

I think just a better flowing filter can make this noise to a lesser extent as well. I've only got a K&N panel and I get this noise, although I'm sure it is not as loud as a pod would be.

It's 4". I think 66mm where it connects to TB. And yes, a better flow of air going into engine will make your mivec sound deeper and louder.

you sure? because i recently put a 3" onto mine.... and that was still not a tight fit... Michael can you confirm this, because you recently just ordered the same set up as mine.

Hrmm weird.

Where are you attaching your pod filter ? I'm guessing it's the standard setup where the airbox is removed leaving you with an intake pipe only ? The intake pipe diameter is ~4inches from my experience. I've got two 3.75" pods and they both need step up converters to stay on. I'm currently using the HKS kit for the fto and it comes with a metal adater tube, which also measures 4" approximately. Incidentally, the UAS pipe i've got on is actually slightly larger than 4".

If you're right and it is 3" then either my car parts are all weirded up or all my rulers are screwed!

yes i am just removing a airbox and replaxing it with the filter so it is 4 inch.

Make sure you get a 4" inlet filter. I tried using 3.75" and even though that filter had tested to be better flow, it still choked the engine at anything but what and higher rpms.

ahhh you talking about the pod filter inlet size? if so then yeah 4"
