CAI Setup #3

Post by khunjeng »

OK.

A while back I reverted from my UniPod set to the stock box.

I then went from the stock box to stock box + K&N panel filter

Now I have finally done my last mod and directed a new intake into the side of the stock box - fed form the front bar.

2 x feeds FTW...
UAS pipe FTW
Stock box, no heat FTW
Hi Flow Filter FTW
Now more cold air ducted into the box FTW

You too can feel the difference!

V.Nice :)
So you're using the K&N panel filter in the stock box now?

You seem pretty serious about air intakes, but how come you don't just move the battery to the boot & ratehr than having the sharp 90 deg bend after the TB, get a large diameter pipe & make it have a more gradual bend ...

I still think that the stock box is too restrictive, even with 2 air feeds running into it ... the only way it will really work is if the air is fed into the box & then to the intake pipe on a more direct route ...

it is easier to do this with the K&N panel filter, but the stock box would need to be rotated 60-90 deg clockwise & bodge up a new mounting bracket... then have a very large air intake feed running up through the bottom of the stock box from the front bar ....

if you wanted to you could have other sources of cold air running into it, can't really hurt anything.. not sure how to explain it really, might have to do up a picture ...

lol all in theory mate.

You can put a bigger pipe but the TB is only 63mm, the UAS pipe goes from quite large to the 63MM size.

THe chnage in bending radius would have a minimal impact for a whole lot of effort, so no point.

Using the stock box is the best way to ensure your air is cold, its a trade off but cold air, rammed in hard via a new feed with high flow filter is the way to go. Only a bigger box would be a better idea, but why the temp on the day makes a bigger differnece on my performance.

The feed form the front bar is direct and as good as your gonna get.

I want a UAS pipe dammit! $300 seems a little pricy for one though and before i was on FTOOC or something like that and they did the whole smaller battery with pipe going over the top as to lessen the bends etc very minimal gains!

agreed and seen some1 do it also. I'm investigating my own manufacture of a new pipe from OS, stay tuned on that. If I can get the right price I will put it up from GB.

Also rememebr when you see dyno runs, the engine bay doesnt always get as hot as some real road use.

Also remember, the air filter is to filter....you need to protect you engine so its a tradeoff between flow and filtration.

I hate to sound dumb but what's OS and GB? I'd love someone to manafacture some pipes which are better then standard im sure if we all put our heads together we could make a rather efficent one. if you do it i'll buy one. was thinking of trying to make ony myself but i dont know it has to be plastic to keep heat down! basically a UAS replica would be ideal

:)

O/S = Overseans
GB = Group buy

I have sent of the stock pipe and now awiating a price. Then i can get a sample which may take a few weeks to get to me. Then we can see how much its gonna cost. My gues...much cheaper than the UAS one as we did some for the r33 and they were 160 and more complicated.

But it might take some time, I'm pretty busy at work as of tomrrow..no longer working from home :(

after driving for the past few days I can confirm I've got better low down responce...its not struggling as much on take off...

the air is actually being pushed through the filter as aposed to it being sucked in...hence why I like the sealed box approach over pod as the air has nowhere to go but through the filter, works better as u build more speed obviously.

This approach has been proven by running the pod on the front bar...but going through a puddle can be bad..works much better though!

1 week on, throttle response is much improved -the other half has even noticed the difference.

Best $10 performance upgrade...
