Stupid question. VRX engine in FTO

Would there be any possible way of getting a 3.5 litre magna VRX engine to gel with an FTO?
stupid question, just an idea, not really a car tech head, but 163 kw engine ain't bad.

from memory the gearbox is on the other side of the engine on the Australian engines... maybe a 3 or 3.5l mivec from Japan ... but i'm not 100% sure

Gearbox is on the opposite side, the engine would have a lot of clearance problems too.

whats the point for 13 extra kw, the weight of the huge engine would make your car slower !, even if it did fit you would be looking at around 10k+ for 13 kw

There would be a lot more torque, especially in the low-mid range, which would be better for things like drags at the stop lights.

i dunno about that i've smashed and i mean really smashed many VRX's ... to the point where on one "run's night" we put another person in my car and i pulled out of the run near the top of second gear cause i was so far ahead it wasn't worth worrying about anymore.

hehhe my car was packed full of mates, as well as luggage for overnight, and my friend had her magna with another person in it and full of luggage, and she kept up ok, guess the torque comes in handy with a lot of weight

I'm a little surprised. I've never dragged off a VRX, but with higher torque and higher power, both at a lower rev range, that the VRX has, I am surprised that you "smashed" it, I thought it would have been closer than that.
The VRX must be a far heavier car, or there must be some other factor that I'm missing, as with better torque at lower revs it should be beating the FTO.

*smiles* I state that the other factor is sitting behind the wheel =)
Mind you, manga's are still FWD family sedans, regardless of upgrades to powerplant, etc. There's only so much power you can put down on a FWD. They're probably still running the standard gearbox as well.
Who knows *grins* too many factors.

Anyone dragged the RalliArt version?

Don't see too many Ralliart Magnas around but I don't like my chances against one. From memory the manual gets to 0-100 in around 6.5.

A manual FTO does it in around 6.8, so it's possible depending upon the drivers.

although 163kw on paper sounds pretty good, a 3.5l V6 motor in the FTO will no doubt make it very front-heavy, hence it will considerably upset the weight balance and handling of the car...
and G_A_V is right - for the money involved for the conversion, it does not justify the extra 13kw and a handful of torque... all you are getting is basically enhanced driveability but not necessarily quicker ETs.

if you want to do a engine conversion i suggest you use a 6A13 from a VR4 galant or VR4 legnum

for the cost of a VRX half cut and tranny, your better off going turbo or supercharged.
