Lancer MIVEC in '04

Post by GB »

I know new car release schedules need to be taken with a grain (OK maybe a few grains) of salt but this certianly caught my eye.

In the release schedule (for 2004) in the current issue of Motor Mag it reads:

" Mitisubishi Lancer MIVEC: 140kw mill to bridge the EVO gap"

Now - the Lancer range being 4 potters does this mean a four potter with MIVEC technology for 140kw???????? Considering the current Lancers are around 92kw that's a huge jump!

interesting?

Actually read the magazine properly and just not turning to
the good bits and found another article about it.

Turns out it will be a Ralliart jobie this time with 120kw. How it manages to gain 20kw in 120 odd pages is a bit of a mystery but??? To be
released around July next year.

MIVEC Lancers / Mirages (aka Colt) have been around for god knows how many years already, but we just never got them in the Oz market...

the last time i heard of a MIVEC Lancer, it pumps 129kw from a 1.6 (CE-series VRX and Cyborg-R).

i think they also have higher compression ratio than the FTO therefore being so highly tuned they require 98-RON fuel (at least) to run. they also redline at 7500rpm and being a 1.6, it's not really gutsy from the low end of the RPM scale... guess you could call it a typical rev-happy little' ripper... ;)

...but damn, 140kw from an NA 4-cyl with less than 2000cc is something not to be sneezed at!

we have plenty of GDI Galants, lancers and Spacewagons here in Singapore. but many owners have complained of idling problems, combustion problems etc...

Hence i feel that the GDI is not as good as it seems, Japan is also withdrawing the GDI technology...

There has been quite a lot of talk about a midrange lancer for a while. Drive mag in the AGE often mentioned them about 6 months ago. They were wanting to partner up with ralliart again and produce either a turbo lancer to compete with the WRX - a bit like GSR i guess but not at the EVO 6 price or a mivec version.

yeah the Tarmac would be awesome! :D:D

i still don't understand why they pulled out of the pocket rocket 4WD market after the success of their CC-Lancer GSR...

a mid-range Lancer would be a good move to reinstate some spark into the Mitsi image, esp in Oz... they can't fool us with their VRX as 'the sh*t', i mean who are they kidding..??

the funniest things is i've actually seen a 6A12 (non-mivec) 4 door CE lancer before, so why we haven't got them in OZ is a real mystery, cause it will fit perfect as a med range lancer.

hi,

Emailed Mitsubishi Australia and they told me that there won't be a Lancer with a Mivec coming in 2004.
