It was Nizpro and EKW (Melbourne) who quoted me around $800 to $1300 for a MIVEC engine depending on the kms it had done. Mind you that was 3 years ago when I last asked.

Well, they aint quoting that now....but they did say they would do $1850 delivered to Adelaide.

Just a shame that they dont have one like they thought they did... :evil:

him about engines for ya. no mivecs in stock but he's got a couple

Yeah, but you only have to buy the engine from them, and get a workshop you trust to fit the thing. They are not really responsible for the quality of the engine as such - comes out of the crate and into their stock.

is there a reason for the crazy knocking noises that i was talking about on the first page ?

ok....i guess i reall need to go there tomorrow and take more pictures...
and i will tell him to open the engine up more.....
and photos will be up tomorrow night!.....

dannyboy/bennoz......where are u located ??Location: that speck disappearing in the distance....is that it ?
by any chance of u be able to come down from the distance and have a look for me.... :cry:

Just get some clear pics & we'll have a look. Pics of both the piston, the block & the head.

Dannyboys onto something with the theory of a foreign object being in the cylinder - It would certainly explain the noise.

Lets put it this way, these guys are the last bunch of people I go to if I'm looking for parts for any car. I know lots of people already complant just about any parts they got from them. Like you said, they will tell you they would not take any responsibility even if they sold you something that never work at the first place.

In my opinion The lack of damage outside the squish areas says to me that what caused the noise was when it was getting sandwiched between the head and piston and when it fell into the other areas it just cleaned the carbon off as there was enough clearance for the piston to go up and down. The noise would go away when it jammed between the valve and the valve seat, then come back again when it dislodged.

ok..i think i have made the decision on what im goign to do
im looking for a new engine to put in and dont konw what to do with old one maybe sell some parts....

yeah would make total sense regardng an "extar bit" floating around...the piston can't get that high without some help :) plus might explain the damaged plug...totoally dodgy and its obviously something was dropped in. OMG

do u guys still think that this is because the last machnic who did this ? (about 1 year and 3months ago)

could i still have a chance to have someone else buying me an engine for me ?

what are u guys thinking ?

and i did saw someone voted that its my fault....hehe i like it dont have anytime aginst u....but i just want to know why....

got a question on getting a new engine...

what should i be looking out for to see if this engine is good or not ?

if i use to a manual fto..should i be looking for a manual engine ?

was the pic of the spark plug the new spark plug that was just changed or the old spark plug that was taken out

Engine is an engine - doesn't matter what transmission it had. Chances are they wouldn't know either.

The only thing they can really check is compression - the rest is just "hit and hope" really.

The spark plug in the pic is new, the old one looks like been in a BBQ, pure charco black. :?

Here's the hi res pics

Im willing to lay a wager that what fell in was the washer off the end stud of the inlet manifold.... the one you cant get your finger in to remove before pulling the manifold up.

Have a look at the piston in the first pic closely - The piston has been compressed that hard by the object that it has actually mushroomed the metal out. Its pushed out that far you can see the distance that is usually between the bore & piston is gone on the top & bottom edges. Its also scraped the bore as a result, you can see the mark up the front edge of it...

I won't take that wager

The ringlands all look like they are intact.

I would say definatly foriegn object damage.

Considering that the mechanic would look at it and know that too and made other excuses, makes me believe that they know they dropped something in there and don,t want to pay for the damage they caused.

The old spark plug was in good condition so you know that it happened during or after the spark plug change. Because damage to the new spark plug is enough proof that there was foriegn object flying around the cylinder. Remember the piston goes up and down about 2000 times, when you run the engine on idle for a couple of minutes

The workshop owes you a new engine, you will probably have to take them to consumer protection. Maybe they workshop owner will come to the party when presented with the facts and that you are going to consumer protection.
