Seriously, who steals side indicators, what a useless-ass thing to steal! They don't go for the rims, don't go for the head unit, they go the SIDE INDICATORS. I'm going to start stealing car Radio aerials soon, that's about as useful and just as annoying.

The previous owner of my car had them stollen.

People steal car badges and what not and if you knew the price of them, owned an FTO and were a dirty little %#$@ kicker, you'd probably steal indicators too

Think mine are about $140 a pop... can't recall exactly what he said they cost him now but it sure as hell wasn't cheap.

Little bastards will steal anything ... this reminds me of the simpsons episode with the trampoline... no one would take it... so they locked it up and it was stollen overnight. haha!

I knew badges were a target, but I'm really surprised by the indicators. You'd really have to know how much they were worth to go after them too.

Guys, if your car is parked in a spot where they can steal your indicators, I'm sure there's much worse that can be done in that spot.

Just park is somewhere open and never near a pub or a place drunk people walk by and you'll be fine.

close... well.. yes same idea, only instead of a rotweiler (which u have to feed and clean up after, and not to mention it'll not like the summer heat and all that), how about we just use an alarm?

BorepYano's onto something here. Most alarms use a connection to earth to tell if the doors, bonnet or boot have been opened. If you already have an alarm, you could run a microswitch on the indicator units so that if they are moved (in this example rotated or ::gulp:: levered) this could trigger the alarm. Be fiddly to set up but in theory can be done.

As with any alarm, no guarantees the bastard will be caught, but could give u a bit extra peace of mind for those who have a lot of thievery problems like this.

And if you did catch them, you could put that rotweiler to good use...

seriously.. if you park your car in a place where they can steal your indicators, even the alarm wont do anything!!!

Look at microwave sensors... can be a b***h when it rains but stops anyone, keying/hitting/stealing sh*t with your car.... as i've had 2 rather large dint put in mine, i got it and was $75 onto cost of alarm... works a treat, plus i have a switch to turn it on and off (but leave alarm on)... has about 10cm around the vehicle protected

That sounds pretty cool... would that be why I seem to set off the warning alarm of a car about 20m away from mine in the apartment block I currently live in? haha the secured car park might cause some reverb or something? NFI what I'm talking about... not in the slightest... but my exaust does not even point at the car.

or u can do that, if u r going to upgrade your alarm anyway.

i was thinking that i can make up some alarms just for the lights (i have a habit of ripping useless things apart and using them to make other slightly less useless things), but the problem is at best i can make these things to go off when your light gets moved, or more likely when they r out/almost out (the problem is finding the balance between security vs. practical i.e. not sensitive enough they'll only go off when the lights have already been stolen, too sensitive means it might go off when u turn a tight corner)

I'm going to try make the first set in the next couple of days. Then i think i should test them on someone elses car besides mine to make sure they fit right and people can get the in.

I drive past caloundra every week... I work on Sunshine Coast 3 days a week and 2 days in bris (from home).

Ya that'd be my car (now), he kept the plates... probably... they're on some other car now that doesn't look particularly ricey IIRC. Saw them on the sunshine coast (heading past maroochy maccas) on a weeknight a while back.

Well they didn't go so well. i had a lot of problems casting them...i fixed that and now i'm having problems machining them that i can't seem to fix. I was about to give up because i've spent at least 3 weeks trying to make the little bastards. I thought they'd be way easier that seatbelt guides Anyway i'm going to do it a totally different way now. I spoke to an engineer who is making some things up for me in the next week so as soon as i get that i can start making lots.
