Discovered in my venture to remove the hubs that the rubbers are starting to split, so may as well myself.

You sorta get half of it in the vice & push it in a bit, then flip it over & do a bit on the other side. Remove the rubber boot before you do it.

Correct.
Ensure firstly that the shafts are the same length, otherwise it will not work out the same.

With the tie rod still in place, I wrap some electrical tape around the threads of the steering arm right up next to the lock nut next to the tie rod. That way, if the nut moves when you wind back on, you know when to stop.
Having said that, the tie rod may not be identical to the old one, so I'd be off to get a wheel alignment regardless. Especially since you've done the bushes as well.

The fuking bolt in the ball joint just keeps fuking spinning making it impossible to tighten.
ive tried clamping it and bashing it back in, is there a technique or is the solution just to bash it back up there harder.? (which is difficult because the new one has grease nipple things) fuking been stuck on this for 2hours

Use the weight of the car. Put a jack under the bastard when you have the inside bolts on.

I always thought you just shove an allen key in the top of the ball joint to stop it from spinning while tightening but obviously it's not there for that???
