Does anyone have an oil temp gauged installed?
What sort of temp does normal road driving does i read?
How about track?
I've got a 6yr old 110k km engine previously using 5w50 oil.
Thinking of switching to a 5w30 or 5w40 oil, would it be foolish to do so?
I'll ignore the noisy tappets, they come on all e time...

hey wildfaye,
Ive been on mobil one (5w 50) for quite a while and have changed to castrol 5w 30... due to cold ambient temps
ive done this only recently when its been cooler( 5 10 15 degrees) im pretty impressed with the oil as the engine sounds pretty smooth. ill probable use this oil till it gets a bit warmer(30) and then change to a 5w 40/50 . im not sure how the castrol 5w 30 will hold up with the summer coming allong 30 > degrees....

Ive been to singapore many times and i know what the heat is like..
When you really think about it.. i dont know whether the actually ambient tempreture has much to do with the runnning tempreture ... even though i chnaged my oil for this reason... hmmmm but im not sure...
theres soo many variables in the choosing of oil..
if your cars oils running tempreture is about 90 in Winter or summer....then it shouldnt matter if its 30 or 40.. should it?

hehe thanks, i got it in the end. usually i do all this stuff with my friend who is a mechanic but this is the first time i attempted it in my garage by myself. weirdest thing happened once i replaced everything, started the car while it was on the jack, the car revved to like 5k and one of the wheels started spinning, and im 100% sure it wasnt in gear !

hey guys,
my new" mechanic told me that my engine needs a thicker oil like 15w 50(penzoil) due to the wear. so i got that put in. It ended up being very rough when revving and fuel economy suffered
haha so 4 days later ive put a motul 4100(10w 40) for ballance bewtween 5w 40 and 15w 50... so far so good... its allot more smoother to rev, but it remains noisy...
