I did notice that it does have two different procedures for the 6A12 engine from the Workshop Chassis Part 1 Manual and the Engine Manual

Workshop Chassis Manual says :-
Tighten to 74Nm
Fully Loosen
Tighten to 20Nm
Tighten 90 degress of a turn
Tighten 90 degress of a turn

Yet in the engine manual it says:-
Tighten to 20Nm
Tighen 120 degress of a turn

If this the same conflicting information that you have? Depending on what information you think is correct you should tighten it by either 120 or 180 degrees after it has been tightened to 20Nm :!:

I've just found a third procedure from a head gasket installation instructions although this is for a Galant with a 6A12 motor
Tighten all in specific order to 3Kpm (29.4Nm)
Tighten all to 5Kpm (49Nm)
Tighten all to 7.5Kpm (73.5Nm)
Undo 180degrees
Tighten all to 2Kpm (19.6Nm)
Tighten 90 degrees
Tighten another 90 degrees

The procedure is closest to what is detailed in the workshop manual although the tightening order is the same as the engine manual.

This is driving me mad

well now i guess you see my problem, and also none of these manuals is actually for the 6A13 TT engine. The ARP studs have a set tension for the size, so makes it easy and they are stronger. Did you also notice the differant tightening sequences.

i also have a extra manual for the 6A13 SOHC engine. besides the ones available on the internet. But in that manual it say

Tighten to 20Nm
Tighen 120 degress of a turn

But then in another place in it says

20Nm 120 degress + 120 degress

makes it difficult, the head bolts for the 6A13 and 6A12 mivec are identical to look at, but i am curious are they the same part numbers. Anyone with the Caps program feel like checking it out. It might answer the differances in the manuals. As they head bolts are stretch bolts maybe they have differant rates of stretch

The cylinder head bolts are identical on the 6A12 and 6A13 motors (even the GS uses them  ). They are 10x95 and the PN is MD164738. I did get a little confused by CAPS since the bolts that hold the camshafts in place are also called cylinder head bolts (and these are identical on the GR and 6A13)

PS The bolts are very common on Mitsi cars, you'll find them in Lancers, Mirages, Legnums, Galants and even Carismas :P

Thanks Mate

I guess that kills my theory that they could be differant types of stretch bolts.

Another update on my baby.
15 weeks and still no car. Who said doing a custom turbo job is easy. No wonder no workshop has been able to make a reliable bolt on turbo kit.
After sending my manifolds for ceramic coating, the car has been in limbo, not much can be done till theyre back. There is only one place in Qld that does ceramic coating, so you guessed, he is flat strap. After having my manifolds for 4 weeks he finally put them into the tank on last Friday for the first stage. Come Monday they had melted into a complete mess. My mechanic was in tears. He wore the cost of all this. Since then he has spent 3 very late nights redoing my manifolds. We are about to ship them down to Sydney to get done.
Also found another problem today, the only place they could mount the turbo ( where the battery was ), meant the throttle body was right next to the exhaust. So we are now relocating the the inlet to the other side. The good news is this means a new 80mm throttle body. But a bit more work, and also will have to relocate the aircon pipes.
Hopefully I will have my baby on the road mid Jan.
Jeff
P.S. I will be going with the microtech LTX12 so I will soon have a unichip up for sale.

hey Jeff hold on before you buy the microtech

The current LTX12 is still using the 16 bit motorolla microprosser, the new LT12S comes out early in the new year and that uses the 32 bit motorolla microprosser.

Sorry to hear about your manifolds, guess mine will be going before yours. But i will have to run mine in, so won't be pushing the boost to high for a few weeks.

hey Jeff the wait will be worth it.

When you get it back you will be glad you did it.

The look on their faces when you cream them in a FWD

Priceless

just an update on my baby, engine is in and tuned

On the power run it Only got to 347.5 HP @ the wheels at 4000 RPM and had to shut it down as it became unstable on the rollers. will be putting it on a hub dyno after christmas to see what it will do.

If it wasn't for barries skill, might have ended up with some damage but he shut it down just in time, another second and it would have shot off the dyno, will post some pics of the dyno sheets in the next couple of days when i get my camera back.

Stay tuned for time slips and dyno sheets early in the new year.

damn that's a bit of torque you've got there

Good to hear Danny.
What`s she like to drive? How much torque steer when you take off?
Was the reason for the halted dyno - torque steer ( uneven ) or just the overall torque. I should warn my engineer before mine goes on the dyno.
Thanks
Jeff
P.S. I still wish you wouldn`t take yours down the 1/4 mile before mine. I would still like to have the fastest in Aust for a while. I notice that our friend in Japan has posted a 11.68.

I am used to the torque steer now and ready for it. But it was the overall torque on the dyno when the turbo kicks in it just comes on so hard that it climbs up the rollers.

I am still having traction problems and i am waiting for the LT16 microtech to come out so i can put that in. So we can tune it properly up top then.

well took it down to the motoplex tonight.

Did an excellant burnout and heated up my new tyres perfectly, the track was so sticky. Excellant for good times.

Launched it and it hooked up perfectly then there was these two shotgun like bangs almost at the same time as it came on full noise.

And no more drive, I had sheared both driveshafts clean through, perfect breaks they were, so nice and clean.

So looks like you have got a couple more weeks Jeff.

Could I ask the help of you guys with the caps program, I am chasing part numbers and possible matches with other vehicles for the driveshafts for a 1996 GPX manual, would also like to know if the manual driveshafts are the same as the tiptronic driveshafts. I know were there are a coulple of tiptronic halfcuts.

all fixed

picked up a couple of drive shafts this afternoon and fitted them,

back on the road :)

if anyone needs any FTO parts there are 6 FTO half cuts at mitsubi in malaga western australia

All half-cuts? All from the dash forward? Or were there some front seats?

I was going to get my seats reupholstered, but with the crushed/split foam and all, it wouldn't be cheap. If there are perfectly good seats going, it would be easier to just swap 'em over.

i do happen to know where a pair of FTO seats are, Ray from fullthrottle imports has em, i will ask him for a price tomorrow.

I think mitsubi (08)92093900 might have some ( they have got 6 dash forward non accident half cuts with panels ), give them a ring and ask them for a price then you can compare it with ray's price. Ask for John and tell him Danny with the 400 Hp FTO told you to call him.

Think i will also post this in the general forum, for those who dont read this thread.

Im in the same boat as you Rich with the seats, too much MC's? :)
I might go scouting for parts when I can, I need a new gear surround, as mine has been cracked from heat for years.
