hobbsie have to disagree man, with the
a manual gives you much more control of the car and stuff, allows you to get a better launch and control your handling etc
just like bennoz said most dragsters now use tip equvilent boxes. the problem is there is less power loss with fto manuals than fto tips (5kw apparently). but i have driven a lot of the same type of cars (used to work for nissan) and u can have 2 exactly the same cars (body engine gearbox etc even same colour not that makes a sh*t of a difference) and they will perform completely different

Why are dragsters even coming into this discussion? An fto will be raped from every direction in a straight line by 9/10 "performance orientated" cars. And you cant compare the fto's tip to a top drag cars two or three speed transmission.

We have had the same discussion recently on the FTOOC. Try looking here,
http://www.ftooc.org/phpbb/viewtopic.ph ... ed+tip+ecu for some of the info we found.
It includes links to an American tranny specialist who can do uprated ECUs for the tip box.

yeah launch is much better...IMO its tghe only reason I would want a manual FTO...TIP just doesn't cut it on launch...
but for normal driving...its kicks arse in traffic etc. why are we even talking about this???

I strongly disagree with the bolded statement. I can consistently launch my car without problems with the Tip box. Loading the torque converter (approx 2500 rpm, has the engine just coming onto boost) and releasing the brakes will have me launching as quickly as I possibly can. My car would be an absolute dog with a manual gearbox and there is no way I could launch the way I do now.
Consistency is the key, I would take consistent launches over a fluked clutch dumping and missed gear changes any day.
Hey, opinions, it's what a forum is for.[/b]

okay boys... list your mods.. we should take into account most things we can
mine are:
engine
-K&N Filter
-2.5inch exhaust + high flow cat
thats it
As far as extra weigh though
- 100Kg of Sound Deadner in doors, floor, sides, roof, boot
- 18" Rims
- 100Kg subs + Box (will be taking this out for a few weeks though)
- 40Kg Battery (swapping back to regular battery next week)
thats it... so i'd presume my little mods on my engine would cancel out my extra weight.. i think...
Simon, all that extra paint (especially under the bonnet

) will be weighing you down matey! )
