I had a mate at PET modifications in thommo make it for me. it is just a black plastic pipe, but it is quite solid, just running a simota filter and a sheild. Due to mates rates i dunno exactly what i got charged but i already had the simota pod which was worth about $30. I'm guessing the pipe would be no more than $20 and the heat sheild about the same to contruct. So at a total cost of next to nothing with about 4kw atw gained i reckon its ok considering a full cai system is $200 + for not much more power
I will post pics latter in the week as i've kent my camera to someone.

I'm thinking of putting a K&N pod filter in my ride... can someone please confirm whether the power I'll gain is from take off or more top end?
also, how much more fuel will this drink compared to the stock air filter.
The reason i ask is that I drive to work everyday (I do 90-100kms a day).. so fuel economy is important for me :) but if the power gain is worth it.. then that's another story 8)

depends on the design on the kit as well... if the pod filter is sitting very close to the engine, chances are it will absorb the heat radiated from the engine so it will not perform as efficiently anyway.

as for fuel economy, i'd dare say it'll be very marginal at best but as a rule of thumb - more air + more fuel = more power.

I find i get a little more power when the mivec kicks in. I haven't gone over 140km since i've had the pod installed but i reckon there is a bit more guts at the top end. Enough to notice. I use maybe 5% more fuel, Could be beacue i am putting my foot down to hear the pod suck air in though. lol

This has almost scared me away from getting CAI... I don't want my engine to get this dirty, the A'PEXi one seems pretty good though

Pods will definitely improve engine performance. Less restrictive means more air get burn means more fuel mix into it means more HP.
But due to fto engine layout, always shield the pod from any part which generate heat or else u be sucking in hot air. You will end up losing HP.
Same theory goes to CAI. Intake to be as little bents as possible.

don't waste your time with those pods.. Unifilter is the best IMO. why...less restriction and sh*t loads better filetring properties than everything that I have seen on the market.

run a second CAI pipe from the grille and shield your pod form the engine bay...better yet seal it up.

Most or any of your power gain will come from replacing the stock intake pipe to the TB..its sh*t.

they are great for pickiing up particles
but tis because they are oiled
so if run on GRs may casuse the MAF sensor to run a bit rich
but not much prob
but i had a foam filter ITG from uk in my fto
was pretty good
but man....it melted a bit off the base because it was too hot inside the engine!
past ride : FTO gpx with lots of bling bling
Current ride: EVO 8 with the MOST CARBON IN AUSTRALIA....206KW AT ALL WHEELS
