Try standing on the wheel brace or lightly tapping it with a hammer. Would be just becuase the mechanic used an impact rattle gun to do the wheel up.
Brakes are self adjusting so as the pad gets thinner the caliper moves out a bit to keep pad in contact with disk. The pad usually always touches the disk but not enough to make it squeel. If the caliper was not pushed back properly when they fitted the brakes then it will drag for a while until it can set itself right, but this is wearing out your brakes adn disks. If your not happy with it take it back and tell em. Any good mechanic will whip the wheel off and have a look for you, it only takes a minute and they would be wankers to charge you. and at the end of the day, if it is their stuff up they will have to fix it, and they would prefer to fix it before it gets bad or it costs them heaps.
