okay, good news for me is my car is definitely mivec, and yes there is a big noise change when it kicks in. bad news is my car needs to warm up awhile before it works... was driving back and forth this nice stretch of road...everytime i flat out accelerated, but my car kept on getting stuck on bloody 6Krpm

after doing this for 7km finally i got it up past 8Krpm.
so yeah, anyone else with the same problem, make sure u do some laps for your car to warm up before u take it down to the tracks or drag someone

Maybe mine is a special edition FTO, GR before 5-10 minutes of driving, GPX thereafter...
elmo, if u still wanna take my car for a joy ride, u can if u want, but i doubt my auto will give anywhere near the thrills your fto does

that is your engine management system doing what it should to protect your engine, wont let the car rev above 6000 RPM till it is warmed up.
I recommend you dont rev your engine over 4000 or less till it is nice and warm or all you will be doing is wearing it out quicker as all the internal parts havent reached there optimum operating temperature, that is part of the reason some FTOs have more power than others as they get older because the ones with less power have been thrashed when cold.
and wait till a while after the temperature guage is showing it is warmned up as the oil takes longer to heat up then your coolant

It takes about three or four minutes for my car to warm up after I start it on a cold morning. By the time i hit Great Eastern/ Orrong overpass she's good to go. Damn 80km/h freeways...
What your car is doing is governing the revs like danny said, but i dont understand how you said it keeps gettin stuck at six? If you hit the limiter it kicks it down to about 3500 doesn't it? Well thats what mine does anyway.
As for the oil and coolant being different temps, apparently the mivec works off oil pressure which would be related to oil temp so wouldn't it be set so you are ready to mivec when the governor kicks out? OK the temp reading prob comes from the coolant but it would allow for the oil to warm by being set to a slightly higher temp? And if the mivec works off oil pressure, then there would be a sensor that reads it, for the ECU, and maybe this is what controls the limiter? Dunno. Warming up is a good thing though.
As for taking your car for a thrash....
Well I actually wanted you to take me for a thrash in your car, (cause mines been off the blackstuff for 4 week and I'm havin withdrawals), but if you are offrering, I promise I will be gentle.
Maybe we could swap a drive and you can see the joys of havin a manual.
So is yours the white one?

hmm, should i trust Elmo with my precious? hehe, kidding mate. i'm having withdrawals from driving manuals, so i'm sure it'll be a nice change. i'll email u later on in the week to arrange a time. No, mines not the white one, though i wouldn't mind a set of dcuatro skirts. Mine's silver, nothing flash, though i do plan on ricing it up slightly, thanks to KMC products
