Buying a full cat-back exhaust

i went to this exhaust place that does my wheel and my muffler
he put in a sports muffler for me awhile ago
and i decided to change to a 2.5 ich exhaust he told me 200$
i thought that was good from cat to muffler
but then he told me i wont notice a difference in power except it would just sound louder
so i didnt go ahead with it

What you'll find if you go the Jap brands, the bolt-on cat-back systems for the FTO are 2.5" for the GPXs. For eg. Apexi, Fujitsubo, HKS. So unless you go custom, you don't really have a choice in what size diameter you want your cat-back to be.
I chose Apexi because I wanted a bolt-on kit and not a custom made one. And quite a number of FTOs on Japanese websites I saw had this system as well, so that's how I was convinced also.
I've yet to see a bolt-on titanium cat system for an FTO though. All I can say is people with turbos are spoilt with choices! Oh yeah, either that or if you have a Honda.

I understang what you are saying about why bother..but i just had my 2.25" cat back fitted on the weekend, I can definently feel a greater pull in the lower rev range.
Its not huge, but for $160 to fit this, it was cheap.(i had my own muffler)
it was kind like, yeah we can fit that, $75 or $160 for full cat back.. also I got a HUGE resinator too, makes it nice to listen too.

Me personnaly... I don't trust "feels like" very much... I like stats and measurements better, and a 2.4" mandrell bent, str8 tru exhaust should be better then any 2.25" exhaust... The muffler and ressy mite be majking it sound tougher and sound klike it's pulling harder.... but really, "feel" is all hearsay, and i'm shocked, that there are sooo many FTO's out there with full cat-back exhaust systems, yet, the stock piping is more then sufficient.

Ok... so the muffler and ressy would be nice to make it sound better... but why the piping from the cat? So it would look "Awesome" as a whole cat-back system, instead of the "chop-welded" look.
Most important of all, labour in Japan are very very very expensive, so its not worth the owner to pay someone to do the "chop-welded", as it takes more time (yes which mean money) to do the bolt on system.

i would imagine that most after market exhausts arent hugely different to the factory in terms of diameter etc? which ever car you decide to change it on....
isnt it mainly, that they are often made out of better quality materials and often run a much less restricted path????
im just guessing, but from all reports, changing the piping from the cat to the muffler has appeared to get better results from the members cars here, especially those who backed them up with dyno results???

In terms of materials, I can personally vouch for the quality of materials used in the Apexi N1 cat back. I've had it for a couple of years, and it is still solid. The Apexi also only has one pre-muffler whereas the stock cat-back has a couple. More free flowing I would imagine.
I still don't fully comprehend the issue with back-pressure or the lack thereof. Yet to see any results either way with bigger/smaller diameter pipping.
But I must admit I got the cat-back more for aesthetic reasons than anything else
