Yup, thats your knock sensor in the middle of the Vee. As I said, its a really simple piece of kit, just a microphone.

geez cant believe you ripped your engine apart and not know what is really wrong.

I would have taken it to a mechanic who knows what he is doing. You could find out it was an ECU glitch or a broken wire or something.

Just wondering exactly what kind of 'tap' or 'knock' you were hearing? Was it a sharp sound, almost described as a 'crack?' Relatively frequent? When would you hear it?

Sounds like my problem. Any chance you could post a video of the sound? I'm willing to trade for sexual favours. 8)

Yes. Yes it does. It seems to sound a little deeper and have a bit of a rumble-ish sound at certain revs.

Literally just today, I had a 2.5 inch mild steel cat-back system fitted with a Mercury high-flow muffler and 3.5 inch chrome tip. It sounds the same, although a little deeper at low revs.

I also am smelling fuel and have been for a while. Initially I believed it was my O2 sensor, although a replacement did nothing to help. I then found I had a couple of holes in my exhaust, so I had the standard system replaced, thinking that would solve my problem. Now I'm disappointed to find I can still smell fuel at idle.

I checked my codes a few months ago, which returned nothing. I'll have another look this weekend.
