Bennoz wrote:Thats cheap! A bit too cheap maybe.... ask them if the bends will be done by a mandrel bender & not a machine bender. I'd also look at getting a better cat put in, you'll get better power from it

plese explain what the difference is between a mandrel bender and a machine bender and how it makes a difference. thanx

Mandrel bent = pipe maintains the same diameter and volume around the bends (sorta like a bendy straw).

Machine (press) bent = take pipe and bend (usually by a machine as the name suggests, and resultant diameter around the corner usually decreases. Most factory systems are machine bent, as it is quick to do and saves money.

mr-charisma wrote:you should get a quote from Midas or somewhere... every time i've priced an exhaust system at RP Exhausts they've tried to rip me off as soon as they've heard its for an FTO...

Midas will do a good enough job of it & last time I called they quoted me around the $300 mark ... i think it was $250 cause I was supplying my own cannon..
Are you Stalking me. Because i am going there 2morrow.

I was thinking about midas for a quote see what they say.

Hehe, not you man, but I might stalk your car :P
I haven't actually been in to get quoted officially, its always such a hassle to get my car booked in anywhere cause of work. My new exhaust plans have been put on hold anyways... need the $$$$ to fix the suspension which is all broken... new bushes, struts, links, tyres, wheel align ... then to fix the engine & possibly tip box (though theres probably nothing wrong with it besides needing a bit of a tweek)

Silly question but doesn't the ralliart catback terminate the same as a gpx i.e. two angle cut stainless pipes poking out the bumper at different lengths ?

+1 on sleeper :D
Nah it's a single tip outlet, as per pic.

I had Chris fit that up to a set of extractors, and it sounds great, whilst still being street legal. Not droney, complements the car well.
Thanks for the clarification Kid_Dynamite, looks good btw :) Would love to hear that setup one day.

why?

10" tip does nothing make it 10" or all it matters at the tip.

A good hi-flo cat is gonna cost you 400 at least. Good muffler aboit 200-400. Good pipe and bends + fitting.

1k for a good setup.

500 for a crap one.

Lol that's exactly what he means i'd daresay.
That's the difference between a good exhaust shop and setup vs something that's average. If all you want is a bit of sound then the $450 setup will be a bargain/perfect but if you're interested in power more, there's no escaping the $1k setup unless you have connections to source cheap labour/parts etc.

But $450 for a catback is a very good price, nice.

While we're on exhausts, anyone know if the factory piping is any decent ? If it is, i might do my setup bit at a time

2.25" machine bent mild steel... you do the math

The only factory part of the exhaust that is supposedly ok is the cast headers. Although much better replaced by extractors, if you're not going full on with it they will be ok. The pipe that joins the headers & goes into the cat is proven rubbish - poorly (and cheaply) designed bit of pipe with a very poor gas pulse merge point, the cat is crap & resonator is a baffle type (rubbish) and the muffler aint much better.

Going the whole hog on the pipes will give you anywhere up to 15kws. Best gain on an FTO besides the intake.
