Can anyone give me a ball-park figure of how much it would cost to install this thing? I don't want to get ripped off. How much is UAS charging?

about 100.00 for install shouldn't take longer than 60mins to install unless there is major problems with your exhaust already (i.e. rusted bolts that need drilling out)

so i take it that it arrived to you last week?

i got mine installed today, along with some new tyres(at least there wont be as much sliding around corners now hey steve )

got it done for 100 bucks, they said it should have been more cause took them a bit longer but because it was in same complex as work they give us a discount

anyway, installed, sounds.........impressive
has a metallic whistling kind of sound in mid rev when accel hard and when lettin off, but this isnt very audible from outside the car
impressed at the vocal difference from a small change

as for performance increase, dont know, wasnt goin hard with fresh rubber

you should be looking at a 6-7kW increase on the manual. the noise is yeah interesting but following me all day yesterday you should have been getting pretty used to it

good to hear about the new tyres i had a few anxious moments watching you in my rear vision mirror use way way way more road than you should have been.

what tyres did you get?

it was only towards the end of the main run, just before wollombi where i was gettin a little edgy with the handling(around the time i said 'damn i need to get some new tyres' on the 2-way, where at times i wasnt sure what the back end was doing....before then it was just some fun cornering)
and i promise next time ill stay a bit further back if your worried...though i do owe you a car marking



Ended up with some eagle F1's(D2's cause they dont make the new D3's in the size im running, but they still get good reviews for dry and wet handlin and for about 170 a corner and the ease of instant installation were a good buy(only other ones they had in were yoko's base tyre)) cause they get a pretty good wrap and the place did a pretty good price on em, a lot better than the ones that were on there thats for sure

and as for noise, yeah, but yours has the cat back done as well which im sure is adjusting the sound, should have asked airbourne or fto12345 to rev their engines so i could have heard it, though they prolly both have cat back alterations as well(i know airbourne has the ralliart exhaust)

Anyway, im sure the exhaust noise will grow on me more, just take time to get use to it

EDIT: Whats the size of the piping of the exhaust that is being sold on the forums? The one UAS is selling.

Just nitpicking here, but UAS sent me a receipt for $250 (plus shipping) rather than $450.

i can send you a copy of the recipts for the deposits if you like but they just have totals on them and its not itemised. the receipt you have is done that way so the tax man doesn't ask tehm twice for GST

fair enough then....

i wasn't going to count this as a tax deduction anyway

a couple of you (and John @ UAS) have reported that there are different size holes in the flanges. This isn't a drama you may just have to enlarge them a little bit (on the exhaust mod). As i mentioned on the cruise there are so many differently complied cars out there that this sort of thing is bound to happen, and isn't a problem that a drill and a drill bit won't resolve.

if anyone has any major difficulties please let me know.


also there are still several people who haven't gotten in contact with me regarding their exahust mod and when they would like to finalise payment / have it installed. Please do so as soon as possible

well it does fit but we've had turbulance problems due to different size piping and flanges on GAV's GR...

what we need is a modfied GR (preferablly in sydney) that's prepared to donate their car for a day so we can test it and see if it works on a modified one... (requires highflow cat, cat back exhaust is optional but would like it to have one)

got mine installed yesterday at UAS

big change in exhaust tone, much deeper and louder (it does sound meaner, my old sound was nicer to the ear), i kinda miss my old exhaust tone but i hope i get used to this soon... in terms of power i dont feel much difference in the low revs, but in the high revs there seems to be a difference. but really i will have to revisit the dyno to see if/where the gains were made and if there was any loss in any part of the rev range. i was getting 98kw before this mod so lets hope i get at least 104kw hey?

it took them 1.5 hours, and they charged me $100 for the labour

they managed to recoup their cost by charging me $30 for inspecting for any worn swaybar bushes or droplinks.

ok my tone is a bit negative since they came back after the 1.5 hours saying nothing is wrong. clearly there was, since i am getting very clear rattling noise when going over any uneven surfaces. so after i insisted there was something wrong, they had a closer look and reported my front swaybar bushes were worn.

it was my mistake for just not taking to an actual suspension specialist who would have given me a free and accurate inspection.

lesson learnt: dont expect UAS to compromise on their billable minutes, and dont go there for suspension work.

I know of at least one individual here who has changed his droplinks and swaybar bushes on his own, i would trust him more for this work than UAS.

Oh and I will get it checked out properly at a suspension place and find out if my rear bushes and my droplinks are ok as well since i dont feel confident that the UAS inspection was accurate.

Had mine installed today for $60 only . There's a definite change to the exhaust note from inside the car, but not sure about outside. Haven't noticed any improvements in performance as yet, but then again I didn't take it high in the rev range because it's raining right now in Melbourne.

Overall, I'm pretty happy so far. Well done Steve and UAS for your efforts!

PS: there was a slight problem with installation cos they had to change the angle of the oxygen sensor in order for everything to fit.

It took them about 1 hr and 15 minutes, only because they had to get to that sensor via the seat. Otherwise it would have been under an hour.

I can't hear any metallic whistling sound. I don't know about SilentBob, but my cat and muffler are stock standard. He may have changed his, hence the different note.

And I also think that $100 is a bit overpriced for an hour's labour. $60-$80 would be a bit more reasonable.

when letting off the accell around mid rev it sounds like a whooshing sound
when accell around the mid rev range its just got a metallic sound to it, kinda like a motorbike

Think i might have to get out the camera, record it and post it and see if it differs to others

have you modified your air filter? i think im also getting that noise you describe, i first thought that it might be from the air pod i have ... maybe this mod forces your air pod to suck harder hehe

G1, the reason why they couldn't find it was that its not actually a visible problem the car has to be taken for a drive to work out what is wrong with it.

anyway as i've always stated UAS aren't the cheapest but in my opinion they are the best at what they do. everytime i've had a suspension issue they've been able to diagnose it as soon as they were given an accurate description of what the problem is.

The charging for everything to me isn't an issue. As i contract out myself i charge in 15 minute intervals for everything i do. i at the same time expect to pay for everything that i ask people to do for me.

anyway just my opinions.

yes i dont really have a problem with them charging for everything... like i said i should have just taken it to a suspension place and they would have found it straight away. my old mechanic didnt need to drive my car to know that i had worn bushes, if you simply grab the sway bar and shake it back and forth any idiot can figure out something is wrong at which point they should have a closer look, but my problem was that they charged me $30 for a "theres nothing wrong with your suspension" and i had to insist on them taking a closer look.

im not saying UAS are bad at what they do, im trying to do them a favour here if they are open to suggestions on how they can improve. they need to be more customer focused and yes i understand that they dont deal with suspension stuff as much as a suspension workshop... but its just annoying that they still charge more than a suspension place... thats all, and they come up with excuses to try and justify why they couldnt find the fault
