Post by kazbah »

Hi guys, you've helped me out before so I'm hoping someone can come to my rescue now.

My sun roof wont close all the way. I press the button to close it and it moves forward as if to close the kinda hits something and backs back a couple of cm's. I checked the track for gunk and cleaned it out, added some oil for lubrication but to no avial. HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!

Believe me Steve, I have searched... But the search depends upon the subject line and when I entered "sunroof" it only came up with cars for sale with sunroofs. I've even gone to the UK web site to see if I can find any info there... No luck I'm afraid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know there were threads about this somewhere but I cant find the bloody things aaaaaaaaaaaahhh!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx

By the way Steve the order arrived on Monday - Thanx

ah ok.. i thought this had been covered off...
glad to here the order arrived aussie post ran a whole heap of deliveries late had me really worried.

if it won't close you've most likely broken a little plastic thingy ma gigga... goto a sunroof repair place and they should be able to do it for you but get a quote first cause they tend to try and rip you off.

Hay Steve, Foulz,

Got it fix today at a place called Prestige Sunroofs in Wetherill Park. It was good of the guys to fit me in on short notice, but bloody hell as soon as I drove in in an FTO it was all doom and gloom from them... The conversation went something like this

Them: You know we get a lot of these cars in with sunroof problems.
Me: Funny, but I'm a member of the Aust FTO Club and no-one has any complaints about their sunroof
Them: These things just crap themselves all the time, we've done lots of repairs for Gary Bloggs motors... You'll have to source the parts for this from them
Them: I suppose you regret buying the car - where'd you buy it from anyway
Me: I absolutely do not regret buying the car and I got it from Panther Motors
Them: Geez, theres some rust in the sun roof glass surround what you going to do about that
Me: Well its an eight year old car - and I'm not going to do anything about it at this stage - its still weather proof.
Them: have no idea whats wrong with it and cos it keeps half closing and bouncing back I cant get to he hex screws to unscrew the glass
Me: Well maybe if you opened it up completely you could get at them
Them: Oh yeah - I suppose

Well after a lot of this sort of stuff he finally found what the problem was. A little silver pin in the track mechanism had disloged and was catching on the side of the track and stopping it from closing. One precision screwdriver later (small enough to fit in the space) and all was working again.

What is it with these guys.... and other car people like them, if I had have driven in in a holden there would have been no problems just a "no worries mate should be simple enough" but with the FTO the sunroof was cactus before he even looked at it...

Anyway as I said in the beginning I cant complain too much they did fit me in on very short notice.

I photo the part concerned and email it to you steve if you want to host it for me

Thanks again
Karen
