Finally got the smash repairers and the insurance company to communicate with each other properly today, it sounds like my insurers didn't like the smash repairer's quote too much, as they're sending out an assessor. Is there anything I need to do, or watch out for? The only thing I can think of that I might have trouble with is that I need a new front tyre pretty badly, since the person who ran up the back up of me has admitted full responsibility this shouldn't be a problem right? Any other advice for dealing with an assessor? I don't like the sounds of them
I find it a bit odd that they're sending an assessor as the smash repairer took plenty of photos, or is this standard practice?

dont worry it should all work out.
they have to send an assessor to any claim, thats a must, so nothign to worry about there, and since the other person has already taken responsibility for it all, there shouldn't be a problem.
and if u r still worried about your front tyre, dont worry, if (not likely at all, on the 1 in 1000000000 chance...) they do bitch about it, any judge would say the front tyre having better tread would've just meant that he would've hit u harder as fore u would've stopped sooner, still his fault regardless.

Hmm, well I checked out the report from my last service (very recently done before the accident), and his assessment on the tyres was:
-front right tyre below minimum wear (replace ASAP)
-front left tyre approaching minimum wear
-read tyres uneven tread (noisy on road)
I assume based on Liquiditys comments above this is going to cause me problems. Should I get two new front tyres this afternoon and drive around on them a bit? Will the assessor realise that they're new and want to look at receipts?
The stupid thing is I was going to get new tyres in the next few days before the accident, but as soon as that happened it seemed pointless until I knew what was happening.

The assessor comes out regardless, since they have to make sure the quote is correct.
An important thing to keep in mind - the assessor isn't employed directly by the insurance company, he's just a subcontractor that comes and looks at the car and passes on the information to the insurance company, so he isn't biased and won't find excuses to not pay you out.. it's the insurance company directly that might cause you problems.
Do you mind if I ask which company the person who was at fault is with?
And if they give you any problems you just have to be firm and stand your ground. It wasn't your fault and you want your car to the way it was before.
But as far as the assessor it concerned, he's not in favor of the insurance company.. since he doesnt work directly for them.

No need to buy new ones, just go to wreckers or any private tyre place and see if they can sell you some used ones for like $40 each.
Brand new tyres will cost u $230 minimum each

Ask Glenn if you need to replace them, as he knows the assessors quite well since it's always the same assessors in that area.
Cos when I told him who the assessor was gonna be, he said "He's an alright bloke we'll be fine"
so just see if you can find out who the assessor will be and make sure your at the smash repairers when he comes to look at the car, that way they can argue the cost with him if he tried to offer you less.

I haven't gone through an assessment before, but I got the impression they just come out, look over the car, then forward their findings on to the insurance company? The car is back at my place now and I dunno if the smash repairer's will be too keen on me taking it back there just to have an assessor look at it...

well i definately would recommend you to be at the smash repairers, since they'll try to lower the price on u, and u dont know anything about which bits will need to replaced and how much they'll cost so they will definately pull a shifty on u.. this is what I had been told by President, to make sure the car was at the smash repairers.
Definately something to think about.

haha well that's good that your gonna take it down even though it's a bit of a drive for you, but the assessor won't even say anything when the smash repairer is around, but if it was just u alone, then he'll have his way with you!

but yea seeing how they dont work directly for the insurance company, shouldn't be a prob if you're on their premises
I'm guessing they told you it's better to be there? cos that's what they said to me
