Ways to promote our beloved club

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions as to what we can do to promote our beloved club to other fellow FTO owners?

We have seen so many FTOs on the road (whom we believe may not be forum members) so Scracy and I had a bit of a discussion last weekend and figured there is quite a number of things we can do as members to promote this club.

Personally, i think we could start with either:

* handing out promotional flyers during car shows by having our own FTO club stand

* leaving invitational membership cards to encourage other fellow FTO owners to sign up as members of this club (so they too can be actively involved with club events etc...)

* hold quarterly or half yearly BBQs + cruises in the name of charity (which will no doubt build a strong rapport with the public + authorities)

* wearing FTO Aust club clothing / apparel (ie: polo shirts, caps, umbrellas, beanies etc)

I'd like your feedback on this so we can start tossing up some ideas for next year. What are your thoughts?

enter FTO's into the Auto salon comps advertising the site with the stickers... even hand out small ones as an advertising thing?

Hi,

Maybe print out very small pamphlets and when you go by an FTO parked, just slot it inbetween the window wipers.

The pamphlet should be simple and should only have the web site and a little instruction showing how to register.
And a contact detail to the web master for any questions.

Maybe some one could make a sample and if we come up with one that we all agree on then post it up on the web for people to print and give it out!

I know it's a bit of a commitment but it'll work if people really liked this site.

There are already flyers you can download (checkout the download section) please distribute these whenever you can.

Clothing i'm working on that with Robb (kaveman) but the finanical outlay is pretty expensive so it'll happen after christmas.

Buy the FTO club stickers i have about 20 on hand and can get them made really quickly (the proceeds from these goes to covering the cost of this website as well keeping it more or less free)

Charity thing is pretty cool i'll have to look into how we do this and which charity as a group we want to sponsor? (i'm thinking Steve's Unique FTO Chaity program but i don't think you guys will buy into that ).

in promoting the club you would want to promote the advantages or opportunities of being a member. the club would also require some type of purpose or aim. if that aim is for members to meet up socially for cruises and the like then you need to state that.

however i have always been under the impression that this was just an internet/forum based club. am i right? otherwise, what is this club all about?

many of the members use the forums as a source of information and possibly meeting other fto enthusiasts. i havn't heard anything about the club entering car shows or motorsport events. if the club was to make more progress then you would definately need to make more substantial statements about the aims of the club and make that clear to current and potential future members.

a bit off topic but related nevertheless

one thing we do not have as a club is membership ID and card, which would enable us to get 10-15% discounts from most mechanics and performance upgrade/tuning shops

i discussed this with racebrakes when i upgraded my rotors and pads on the weekend, and all that we would need is a laminated card with a member number with some personal details on it.

we are missing out on one very vital thing that all other clubs have.

A good idea in theory, but a little idealistic & unrealistic . I've walked by many FTOs in my time, but never really had the urge to run back to my car and get pamphlets out of my glove box. I'm not a lazy guy, but I'm sure very few people will be prepared to do this if they spot a parked FTO.

I agree with twistea on this one. Someone needs to sit down and do this properly, ie. write down the long term and short term goals and aims of this club. Only then will we be able to figure out the best way to advertise it. Although this is not a business, nor is it a charity organisation , I have to quote a famous cliche "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

that is exactly what i want to do, unfortunately i have to earn money as well and my job is keeping busy till pretty late everynight.

if anyone else wants to come up with a purpose document for the club feel free. i have some ideas that i've posted recently but as mentioned they are very much a work in progress that has a lot of negotiations / conversations first (with club members and other clubs) before it can become a reality.

One thing i'm thinking of is creating an "online meeting" using voice where we can all get together and discuss this club. you would require a mic / speakers (preference is a head set so there isn't an echo)... who's interested in joining in?

hmmmm u mean like conference call, damm those things a kinda weired, cause usually half the ppl won't speak from experience! I think is easier 2 do things like group msn.

well we can always conference in on MSN (up to 6 users i think)...

as far as promoting the advantages or opportunities for being a club member, well plans are underway for club discounts/deals at selected retail stores (details to come as they become available) so hopefully that'll be a good incentive to lure members in.

oh and instead of leaving promotional pamphlets on windscreens, i don't see why we can't use 'business cards' instead (so we won't have to carry too many around in our wallets).

its free aswell, just need mirc........which is a real small program.
