Click noise behind glove box

Post by Raven »

Since 2 days ago a fairly loud "click" noise has been coming from behind my glove box. i can see the gizmos in behind it and even put pressure on it to stop the click, but cant resolve it and have no idea what the gizmos there are.

it only clicks when i just start the car, however it didnt start this morning untill i put it in gear, but then at lunch it started when i turned on car (before ignition). Its a constant click (doesnt speed up or slow down), and goes away after about a minute (wont come back till i turn off then on car again). (almost sounds like tying to do up window when its allready up. cogs slipping)

i had a guess to say the aircon but turning that off or on dont make any difference.

Any ideas please peeps?

I have the same issue as far as i can work out its got to do with climate control system, when I turn it off it clicks consistently until I change the direction of the airflow. No idea what to do.

think your on the right path, after a second look i realize that 90% of the crap behind the glove box has to do with the air con.

theres a few gears/cranks/pully things there that look easy enough to re-assemble. i might give it the old wd-40 trick and see what i come up with.

but if anyone else know a fix please jump in before i lose the aircon in my car

i know in lancers, thats where the a/c fan is. I also know a resistor on that fan commonly blows (which doesnt let you adjust the speed of it) and/or the fan collects dust and crap, becomes unbalanced, and wears out the motor a little (leading to a vibrational noise).

how rapid are the "clicks"?

The clicks are quite loud and occur pretty much every second.

It is the "damper" that changes the intake from fresh air to recycled air. I have the same problem. For me, I just put the climate control on the fresh air setting and it stops clicking straight away.

I think the only way to really solve the problem is to remove the entire dash to get to it 8O
LED ALL the things.

No luck for me so far, but noise does disapear when i switch to fresh air.

shouldnt need to take out entire dash, just the glove box. gizmo is right behind it. it has some part numbers on it to so if i can pull it apart and cant fix it myself, i gonna try order replacement motors.

however as annoying as the sound is, it stops clicking for me after a minute and wont come back unless i turn off and on car or change to fresh air and back again.

Does it have ABS? my land cruiser runs a pump to prime the ABS on start up, get someone to turn on the ignition while you listen under the bonnet :D
