oh, and i dont like the altezza's, so if they come over i'll probably put em up for sale.

why, are they rare for the fto?

        Only 200

        Post by dstocks »

Only a couple of hundred Project F's ever made. Youll get in the order of $1500 for them!

Oh and thats a GPvR in case you didnt know - can see it on the rear spoiler. In other words, LSD, front strut brace, no climate control (manual aircon) etc.

i'm *sure* i can swap the altezza's for climate control.
hell, cc's are easy as to pick up when doing the ce swap, i'm sure it can be done for fto's as well.

          Wiring loom

          Post by dstocks »

The wiring loom is what may stuff you up. Unlike most cars, the FTO does not come with a complete loom. Im not sure whether the climate control fits into this category (the wiring may be present in the GPvR), but I know things such as the rear wiper and the external aerial require extra wiring that is not automatically present. I know this, because I have been through this pain (had to splice in 2 wires into the main loom to get an external aerial working! And the climate control used a few more than 2 wires. Climate control may not matter to you, but if it does.....

i'm a bit of a (unqualified) sparky for car stuff. Electronics doesnt faze me (was a computer/telephony network technician for quite a while). Hell, i had to splice more wires putting in my headunit :P

Running new power/grounds (fused etc), through-firewall gear, using probes/multi's/oscilliscopes to find pin-outs i want etc, no drama to me. Hell, i'm sure i could rig the f**king thing up to work in my bedroom if needs be.

Interesting that the gpv-r doesnt come with climate control. Is that a weight reduction measure or? I was under the impression the gpv-r had "all the goodies" that other models didnt neccesarily, like strut bar, lsd, etc.

            Nup

            Post by dstocks »

Nup, Think of the GPX as the luxury model and the GPvR as the Sports model. Differences at a glance (1997 - 2000 model):

            GPvR:
            Got:
            - Sports Suspension
            - Front + Rear Strut Brace
            - LSD
            - Manual Aircon
            Optional:
            - Fog Lights Optional
            - Remote Central Locking Optional
            Missing:
            - Remote Folding Mirrors
            - Climate Control
            - Adjustable Speed Intermittent Wipers

            GPX:
            Got
            - Climate Control
            - Fog Lights
            - Remote Central Locking
            - Adjustable Speed Intermittent Wipers
            - Remote Folding Mirrors
            Optional:
            - LSD
            Missing:
            - Front and Rear Strut Brace
            - Sports Suspension

This is based on the document below. Cant say whether its 100% correct, but havent had any indication it isnt???. And yes differences are to do with weight reduction.

when i say "the extras"... i mean the performance side :P

Remote central locking etc isnt a big deal, an alarm was going on anyway.
foldable mirrors...hahaha. Come visit adelaide, you dont need them.
adjustable speed wipers. again, no biggy, and it wouldnt be hard to wire rig up a variable dash resistor if i REALLY missed it.

main selling points are LSD, discharge headlights, s2 bumper. Those three items alone i would have been "grafting" onto a gpx, and the price difference would have been very similair to just getting the gpv-r outright.

Hmm. Not sure if this in fact has the hid's (its an option, it seems) but eh.
will be finding out soon :P

excerpt from email i just recieved

Bad luck Adam, car was NO good.
Not looked after with poor body/paint and very rough interior. Oil
seems to be mixed or have H2O content so could be issues with head
              gasket.

well nuts. ah well, now i can save up some more (go interest rates :P)
