Yesterday was the first day the car didnt start first go. I put it down to the excessively warm heat. The car temp guage was reading 41 outside. I have a GR, ran it up to about 5500rpm, not more than 30seconds before turning it off. Anyway i smelt a fuel smell as i hopped out of the car - think it was coming from exhaust. When i went to start up 10 minutes later it died seconds from turning the key. It sounded like my old corolla when it flooded. I waited a few more seconds and tried again - it sputtered then started up just fine.
I was wondering - you guys n gals think this was purely to due with the car not liking 40+ degree temps and very low humidity going in? Being a car made for japan - i am sure ideal running conditions wouldnt be anything near these temps. I havent had a problem with it since then - been keeping the revs low while the ambient temps are hot.

Oh i should have mentioned the high revving thing... Was running quite late home from golf - i had a place to be, and i got a little (silly) accelerating from lights, etc. The last time i revved it happened to be very close to home...i normally dont go out of my way to do that sort of thing. I think also the "lovely" chick in a 4WD that wanted to drive over me must have ticked me off a little too
SO it wasnt a case of me just revving the car prior to turning it off stationary.
I have 79k on the clock, and as for injector clean - not while i have owned it - and who knows how long before that as i am first aussie owner of the car. Car has been running/idling smoothly since and before then.

Daz_FTO,
I have a quite similar character in my car.
I have "petrol smell" comes out, after a drive, but not from the exhaust. Simply checked it and am pretty sure it is from the outside ventilation holes (just between the bonnet and windscreen).
Not sure if there is any way the fuel line could have a leak or could it be the injectors need cleaning or other causes.
The engine has no problem with starting. Anyone had this experience before?

I have a similar issue with the car, I think is coming from the idle speed control motor, you may have the older version.. it known for issues like this.
