Rather than rehash all the information and get this thread off topic, just do a search for Optimax and have a read. You'll find information about the technical, performance and environmental issues.

But in short you'll discover that shell has changed the formula, that it does not meet the EPA requirements for some states, that it contains high levels of chemicals that cause central nervous system issues, that some of the additives can harm your engine and that a residue builds up after continual use. Anything else that I've forgotten to mention you'll discover when you do a search

BP or MOBIL???

Both the BP Ultimate and Mobil 8000 are very good fuels and are very similar fuels. I couldn't honestly say one is better than the other.

My personal preference is for BP Ultimate, but I will hapily use Mobil 8000 if there isn't a BP around.

If I can't find either a BP or Mobil, then I'd go the Caltex Vortex Gold over the Shell Optimax, even though the RON is 3 points lower. The Vortex is also a great fuel.

yes. i read from other forums. they prefer BP Ultimate as well. Followed by Vortex98. Least favourite, Optimax as it blackens the the bumper area around your exhaust.

Not sure about fuel doctor. But i guess similar nulon product should be better since its a bigger brand and should offer more researchs.

whats the average milage you guys get outta a tank of 98 ron fuel as opposed to the lesser 95 or even 91-92....

i was also wondering if its stupid to use 91-92 octane aswell..or would the ecu just retard the timing and therefore decrease overall power??

would this not let the mivec kick in in the worst case scenario aswell??

hmm. i've been using optimax, now you guys got me all worried.

I am going have to change to something different.

although dont go to caltex/woolworth plus petrol, there's something about their fuel thats not right. did a couple of trails with 2 volvos, a nissan pintara and a new camry, ended up get an adverage of 10% more out of a full tank with fuel from shell/BP than we did from caltex (it was all using normal unleaded, so not sure about the high octane, but still...)

I'd suggest mobil or independent stations, reason being: BP controls the petrol price in aus, because they have the largest market share. So if everyone puts in their 2cents worth (not a BP though lol), it would even the blanace out to how it was before (BP, Mobil and shell taking about equal market share), thus increasing competition, thus lowing the cost of fuel (probably only by a cent or 2 but i guess every little bit helps).
