Premium ULP is a special blend of petrol designed to bring high octane, and hence high engine power, as well as knock- free performance to unleaded cars with a high-octane requirement.
A knocking noise can occur in an engine when there is a mismatch between the fuel characteristics and the engine's design, particularly its compression ratio, resulting in pre-ignition (also known as 'pinging').
Selecting fuel with the correct RON for your engine will prevent the knocking fuel effect caused when the fuel combusts in the compression chamber too early.
Many imported cars, and particularly those with turbochargers, are manufactured to run on premium unleaded petrol.
PULP has a Research Octane Number (RON) of 95+
RON is a measure of a fuel's compression performance and the RON rating translates into the amount of engine power. RON requirements vary according to engine type.

haha depends on the driver too...lawrencetlc wrote:hmmm, dont think that will make such a big difference though..
have been using 91 since i got the car (few months ago) and i can have an average of 550km per tank and sometimes i can even get more than 600km!
hmmm, for what i know, these octane numbers are a symbol of the "burn-ability" of the fuel... 98 being hardest to be burnt and 91 being easiest to be burnt... and the reason they produce 91 and 98 is because some cars when they use 91, their car get "knocking" which the fuel explode before it is being ignited...
But so far i dont find it a problem in my car... hmmm, maybe i shall try once using 98 and i shall update you guys ya![]()
sorry if i am wrong but if there's any chemistry expert here, please correct me ya...
im a very mivec happy driver... the car sees mivec multiple times a day

hmm.. so if we're using 98 then we're still slowly killing our carsFTO338 wrote:This topic been cover heaps of time already, FTO ECU are designed to run on 100ron, so by using 91, you are slowly killing your car.

from what Shell say, their Optimax is the only fuel in australia to be 100RON. my baby runs looooovely on it. i tried BP Ultimate (98RON) when i first got it, but the car didn't like it, and im obsessed about funny noises from a car and thats what the engine was doing. so, i tried optimax, 3 weeks later noises completely stopped. works 4 me...

I had the complete opposite, one of my car had been using Optimax since day one as Optimax was the only 98ron back then, it idle a bit funny, but after I change it to Ultimate, its all fine. One of my old car love the Synergy, so I guess it’s depend on the car.
I don't have a problem of running Ultimate in FTO or any other cars.

I ran Optimax Extreeme for a few months in both the FTO and the R33 and found little differnce between that and BP Ultimate which is what I use now. From my reserach BP is a better product which seems to be back'd up by nemuerous other performance car friends.
etheir one would be good...

one thing i have noticed is that where i live, bp is always 1c higher than every other fuel. even on a strip of 4 service stations (eg. mulgoa rd), all the other stations price match, and bp stick 1c higher.

Fuel here in Mildura is usually $140 for unleaded, I never look at price of Premium eitherjonowong wrote:91 will causing pinging... and the ecu will retard the timing to avoid the pinging... my man filled up with 91 once... and i got 250kms out of a full tank... from F to E it was pretty bad... and the powerloss omg...lawrencetlc wrote:hey, just got a question here...
anyone knows whether there's a difference in using a 91 octane fuel, or a 95 octane fuel, or even a 98 octane fuel?
The price is a huge difference though...
Thanks!
95 is ok u still get about 400kms per tank... but i didnt like the powerloss...
98 gets me about 450km per tank and its more responsive and gives more power... the kms have been tested but the power is just from feeling

Left the car with my parants to mind and dad filled it up with Woolworths 95 EEeeEkK It seemed to have survived..

u will know...under load it will make a funny sound and the engine will feel totally wrong...like its miss firing...u will know. Under a light load u might not know the difference..lawrencetlc wrote:how does "knocking" or "pinging" feels like??
does it feel like a shaky car when the RPM is less than 1000 (when you shift to a wrong gear?)

I've use this example before and i'm going to write it here again.
Using normal unleaded petrol is like driving your car on space saver. Sure it will run, but for how long and what happen when you give you car a bit of a push?
