Cruise control an option for a '96 GPX Manual?

Post by Jagermartin »

Hey guys,
I don't know too much about cruise control but am wondering if I can have it put on my manual '96 GPX as I do quite a bit of highway driving sometimes?
Anyone had this done? and how'd it go, costs etc?

cheers
M

Never an option on sports cars for some reason. Want to get cruise control myself. Any aftermarket one will do the trick. I have put on a manual before and no probs.

I fitted an aftermarket criuse control to my subaru liberty, its my daily drive and the fto only comes out on the weekend.

With the criuse control that I fitted to it, it wasn't that hard, I fitted the controls on the steering column right behind the windscreen wiper controls, the module I fitted under the dash, the servo/actuator mounted in the engine bay on the firewall and that is connected to the throttle, a vacuum line to the servo/actuator, I fitted a magnet to the RHF drive shaft inner CV with a sensor sitting on a bracket on the fire wall to read vehicle speed and Power to the module.

And I also fitted criuse control to a holden Rodeo, it was pretty much the same but with vehicle speed pick up it was connected behind the instrument cluster on the wire that ran the speedo.

The price for the kit I forget it was a while ago.

Oh I also forgot to mention that you also have to connect it to your brake switch so it turns off when you push the brake pedal. and my liberty is a manual so you will have no problem putting a kit on a manual FTO.

I wouldnt mind cruise control as well - a while back I remember someone posting up a cruise control unit in the shape of a gearknob? so you replaced your knob with this one and it had all teh set/coast buttons etc. I think it was on here?

    Anyone know/recommend any good kits?

yeah cruise control on manual feels weird, i remember playing around with it in the mini s :)
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'd only use it on the highway in 5th gear anyway. I drive from Melbourne to Albury a bit so would be perfect for that. Especially as they keep adding those fixed camera's on poles everywhere

Any rough ideas on costs most welcome, won't be quoting anybody here :)

Cruisin' on a fwy at 110 - put the Cruise Control on & take your foot of the gas. Car stays at 110

once on the cruise control on my liberty the set button which also is the increase criuse speed button got stuck in when I activated criuse, my pedal went straight to the floor, lucky it was only in 5th at 90km/h so it didn't accelerate that much, but you do start to worry when your accelerator pedal is flat to the floor, but once I tap the brake it turned straight off which was good.
