Buying an FTO (help!)

Post by Missbhaved »

I'm thinking of buying a recently imported and complied FTO GPX for $10,500. It's a '95 model, done 97,000 km and comes with RWC. Other than that, it is pretty standard. From what I can tell, it's a fairly good price. Just wanted some other opinions - does 10.5 sound about right?

well GPX is normally from 13k or so upwards, and that definately sounds a bit cheap 8O

lol thanks :P Dont have any shows lined up right now - usually just rnb clubs round Melb, and private parties!

They said they did a full service themselves (the importers), and that they would fix any major damages/faults that occur in the first couple of months (they are sure that there wont be any)...

well 3 more Ks and u'll be spending around 800$ for major service (somewhere around this figure right?)
I'd get a check up done through like NRMA or something, they'll give u a full report on the car, tell you which parts will have to be replaced in how long and what might cause a problem later on etc.

oh damn, im in melbourne on friday and sat. might have had somewhere good to go on friday night....
you should get a list of what they did to the car. there is a 100000kms service that is known as 'the major' service. lots to e done and worth quite a bit.
out of interest why are you so intertested in this one?

thanks guys...
unfortunately I have a limited budget, which is why this one is appealing to me the most. The importer is also based about 5 mins from my house, which is convenient and I just really liked it when I went to look at it.

I dont have too many issues with paying for a major service in a couple of months.

I think maybe our RACV checks are equivalent to your NRMA checks? I'm not sure!

yea I was about to say, you seem eager to buy this one. Don't rush it, you might get attached to the first one you see somehow but well.. keep lookin for the right one lol..
actually I shouldn't be saying this, cos the way I come about to owning an FTO, well it's too long to type out but I basically bought the first one I saw for $16,000 and well I guess I got lucky :P

Just don't rush into it, and I doubt the importers have done the 100k major service or anywhere close to it

Sorry I was meant to type my last post before yours lol..
well what I meant was, you get some guy come to the car, spends about 2-3 hours inspecting your car, even measures the depth of your paint around the car and tells you where it's been repainted, crashed, scratches whatever.
NRMA is a major insurance company, people with non sports cars go through them so for you it's probably RACV I'm not too sure what that is.

It'll cost you about 180ish for the checkup, but you'll get a full written report and the guy will talk you through everything after. Definately worth it though

hehe thanks again!

It sounds like the RACV and the NRMA checks are the same! I will make sure to get one before making a purchase.

I've looked at 3 before this one - I really loved the first one I saw. It had leather seats, custom bodykit and few other mods - it was so hot *sigh* lol this one isn't as nice looking, but I plan on doing some work as I save.

Price is my main motive though, simply because I dont have a lot of dough at the moment! :?

ok cool. well thats better than none. if i was down there longer i would take a look for you but i dont think i would have time. the thing is that at least its kind of cheap so if you have problems it wont be too bad as you havent invested heavily to start with. def get the nrma inspection, how ever the one i got for my car was all bad as far as the nrma dude was cocerned, but my car has been great. all the problems that the inspector highlghted were easliy fixe so it was all good in the end, despite the bad report.
good luck with it all....
whats good in melbourne on firday night?
