Radiator / Coolant Hose Replacement & Review

Post by jc133480 »

I recently had to replace my radiator/coolant hoses due to poor condition

This can be an annoying process of getting prices and options so I thought i'd put down some of the options I looked at.

So far I looked at the following products

Samco Sport Hoses
SFS Hoses
APP racing Hoses
CoolFlex Hoses

My choice : SAMCO hoses (blue) from Hyperflow Technologies, $263AUD delivered to Brisbane, fitted by Joe and Ricks, as part of serive, on its own this might cost you an hours labour and 2 litres for coolant ($70?)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For APP hoses goto:
http://www.perfectrun.com.au/performanc ... orhose.htm
or just http://www.perfectrun.com.au/
Basically these will set you back $316.20AUD plus freight from Japan (no tax as less than $1000)

You need to buy the upper and lower kits $316.20AUD for both

Personally these look good but the prices is likey going to be around $370 after freight and exchange rates etc etc.
I bought the clear side indicators off perfect run and know that their prices are good but there are a couple of hidden extras in the final bill.

I talked to the guys from Perfect run and they said that because there are two prices (lower and upper) hose kits, that one of them has two parts, which would make up the 3 hoses in total that are required.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For Samco hoses goto:
http://www.samcosport.com/distributors. ... =australia

Part no. are
TCS160/C FTO GPX Mivec/GR Non-Mivec DE3A / 6A12 (3)
TCS318/C FTO GPX Mivec/GR Non-Mivec DE3A / 6A12 Auto (3)

The two main distributors for Samco are AVO and Hyperflow Technologies
AVO are a rip off they wanted $369AUD for either kit (rip off alert!!)
Hyperflow are by far the best priced at $248AUD for the auto and $278AUD for the manual

Hyperflow also charge $15AUD freight to Brisbane so you have to take that into account.
Hyperflow dont have the parts on site, but seem to have a "rush" order status on all parts from samco so the deliver is 2-3 weeks max

I phoned a few other places and they the prices where also around the $320-340AUD mark for most.

Note there are two kits for the Samco hoses the manual and the auto kit, there are differences and be sure to order the correct type.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For SFS hoses goto:
http://www.are.com.au/

These guys are generally not too bad.
Ask them about and Mitsubishi FTO kit, the old bird on the phone messed around for a bit then figured it out.

Their price for the FTO kit was $295AUD, apparently the SFS kit is compliant to manual and auto, but not 100% sure.
This is not a bad option as they are local to me, but they mentioned the kit would need to be ordered in and that was likely 4-6 weeks.

Also for a joke
http://www.pms.net.au/
Their price for the FTO kit is $395.00AUD ha.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For CoolFlex Hoses hoses goto:
http://www.coolflex.com

I didnt put much effort into looking into these guys, but this not a bad option.
These guys have a nice clean al purpose product that looks tops and is fairly good quality
I figure to replace the standard kit on the FTO you would need
2x 24inch pipes
1x 12inch pipe

The pipe sections can be cut to fit the exact lenght required, so this is a custom fit product.

crome flex pipe with crome tips would set you back 2x $128.64USD + 1x$105.95USD +freight/import approx $70USD
Bare minimum this would be $363.23USD +freight aka around $550AUD to your door, give or take a bit.

Personally: these look absolutely awesome but considering I work on my fto with a price / vs performance attitude, its a little too much for no real gain.

khunjeng, sarcasm is a poor mans whit. I seem to remember this website being for the constructive collection of information about the fto, not for you to lay cra$ on people for making an effort.

Well done mate!

I have been weighing up these alternatives myself and was looking at getting some Samco Hoses from Hostile Performance after AVO wanted to fleece me of more than appropriate amount of $$$.

Bugger that..............I am off to Hyperflow.

Cheers

I can get a quote from my supplier, they do sillicone hosing.

Easiest way would be to get spare hoses and they can just copy them.

rough estimate would be under $200 bucks for both hoses.
