Cost of Parts & engine compatibility

Post by gareth »

Hello all,
This question has probably been asked many time but i have spent hours looking through the forums and cant really find any answers, so here we go

I'm very interested in buying a 94 gpx fto but i am worried about the availablility of parts. Are they readily available in australia and if so will they cost you an arm and a leg. Also is the engine same or very similar to any other vehicle and generally is there anything to be aware of when buying?

Thanks,
Gareth

Welcome to the forums :D

We've (kaveman and I) had jut about every bit on our FTO's replaced at one stage or another (Kaveman;s whole engine at one stage) and have never had any trouble sourcing parts.

A few of us have a program that lists other compatible parts if you get stuck.

dstocks website (Complete FTO) - http://www.completefto.com.au/fto_showcontent.asp is a great resource, as are some of the members like Panelhouse who has a lot of 2nd hand parts.

Like any sports car - they are more expensive to fix than your average family ford (the old type) - but - the old adage is you get what you pay for.

There is a great wealth of advice on the forums if things don;t seem quite right on your car, and there may be easy fixes available for.

Main thing to be aware of when buying, is if the vehicle has done over the 100K mark - to make sure its had its major 100k service done.

Hope this helps

Cheers

yeah good advice from Teania .

100k service and any other obvious issues such as gearbox, steering etc. There is a stick that has a lot of things to look for when buying a car. Have a look at that - has specific FTO issues.

as for parts...not a drama dispite popular belief. Although not as many parts as say a Skyline...we neevr have trouble and most ppl hear can source the bit u are after. also most ppl here will be happy to sell u the parts also!
