So I imported an FTO..

Post by kid_dynamite »

I've told a lot of ppl privately but the reason my gf is selling her yellow FTO is because I imported a newer one for her earlier this year, and I just finished off the last touches on the process last weekend.

All up, it took exactly three months from purchasing the car in Japan, to obtaining registration - spot on with my estimates. I did pretty much everything myself, as I've had experience (bought my R33 and my brothers R32 from Japan previously).

I think the addition of the FTO to the SEVS list is a wonderful thing. More people will get to enjoy them. I saw several FTOs leaving the docks (including another yellow one :D).

Currently there are SEVEN workshops nationwide who can comply FTOs. Out of the three in NSW, one does not deal with private customers (car dealers only), another I will not recommend as they are dodgy, untrustworthy and downright abusive (they're in Liverpool  ). But a big thanks must go to Sergei from Version One AutoImports (9666 7369) who complied her car.
Sergei is a fantastic guy and I'd recommend anyone thinking of importing an FTO to talk to him . Unfortunately he has no more plates available for the FTO for several months (RAWS are only allowed to comply 100 cars per model per year and he's at quota already).

Oh well, any questions, post away. Happy to share info where I can.

Haven't calculated the final price, suffice to say it's very competitive  As for the plate, I only paid $3k + tyres, which is very reasonable considering how new compliance is for the FTO.

I'll try and get some pics up tonight.

dannyboy - I know of one RAWS who's in the process of arranging compliance for the Legnum VR-4 (EC5W) and the Galant sedan..shouldn't be too long away.
